Anyone here a butcher/meat-cutter?

I am seriously thinking about a career change. I've always wanted to be a butcher (weird I know). Are they union? Do they get paid decently?

Our local supermarket (Publix) is always hiring meat dept. trainees and was rated the #6 company to work for by Forbes.

11. Since Publix is Florida based, they are if not anti-union, certainly non

union. Florida is a right to work state and to my knowledge, no meatcutters are union. Publix IS apparently a pretty good company to work for but the wages are much lower than say Michigan or Illinois grocers. Go and talk to a butcher at your local Publix. Better source for info than here, i would guess.

BTW, I worked in an Abbatoir when i was younger. I can slaughter and quarter it for you but i leave it up to the butcher to get the steak out of it for me.
