1. Were they too lazy to send a real person?

2. Did they ask her for her SS number?
'Cause that'd be a bad thing.

4. Nope.
Not yet anyway.

My mom is saying 'no reply' to a lot of their questions. Plus is showed up as "Census Bureau" on our caller ID, so I'm assuming it's safe?

5. Why are they calling? This is not a census year
Be damned careful who you give info to. I would not do it over the phone AT ALL! Get it in writing, get IDs from the people asking questions.

I worked for the Census in 2000 and, yeah the long form questions are sort odd, but I wouldn't just take someone's word for it over the phone!

7. Is your state contesting the findings of the last census?
Sometimes that happens and they redo it. But otherwise, it is every 10 years and it's only been six years.

I still would make a call officials and make sure it is legit before I would answer questions over the phone to a stranger. Too easy to print stuff (flyers) up at home in this day & age.

8. The caller ID said "Census Bureau"
Which would be hard to fake, right?

Now you're making me paranoid.

10. I worked for Census 200. There are census taken in between decades.
Usually, these are to take a reading on business (location, type) and housing trends.

9. There is also an annual survey
called the American Community Survey. The questions are apparently similar to the long form.
