1. The Carol of the Bells.
That song scares me a great deal.

That's not a joke. Really. When I hear it, I have a very bad, visceral reaction. Like a night terror, except I'm awake.

That's one of the few I can tolerate! Maybe because I'm part Ukrainian.)

12. Heh
I had a teacher in high school who had the unfortunate burden of being named "Chet"...I say unfortunate because I can only imagine how tired he got of every class, every year around Christmas singing to him:

"Chet's nuts roasting on an open fire..." :D

7. interesting
I find it surprising so many people find all Christmas songs annoying. I really like most of it. We listen to the cable radio "Sounds of the Seasons" channel quite a bit around this time of year. the newer stuff is kind of annoying (Britney, N'Sync, Mariah, etc.) but I like most of the old traditional songs.

I guess I'm just not terribly hip :-)

17. Try working in retail.
They play the same six songs on Muzak over and over, granted the versions are mainly by different artists. Eight hours of that stuff is pure torture. I'm just glad I don't have to do it anymore, but Mr. scarlet_owl comes home grouchier than ever this time of year.

An Italian Christmas- by Mario Puzo

Twas the night before Christmas,
Da whole house was mella,
Not a creature was stirrin',
Cuz I had a gun unda da pilla.
When up on da roof
I heard somethin' pound,
I sprung to da window,
To scream, "YO! Keep it down!"
When what to my
Wanderin' eyes should appear,
But da Don of all elfs,
And eight friggin' reindeer!
Wit' slicked back black hair,
And a silk red suit,
don Christopher wuz here,
And he brought da loot!
Wit' a slap to dare snouts,
And a yank on dare manes,
He cursed and he shouted,
And he called dem by name.
"Yo Tony, Yo Frankie,
Yo Vinny, Yo Vito,
Ay Joey, Ay Paulie,
Ay Pepe, Ay Guido!"
As I drew out my gun
And hid by da bed,
He flew troo da winda
And slapped me 'side da head.
"What da hell you doin'
Pullin' a gun on da Don?
Now all you're gettin' is coal,
You friggin' moron!"
Den pointin' a fat finga
Right unda my nose,
He twisted his pinky ring,
And up da chimney he rose.
He sprang to his sleigh,
Obscenities screamin',
Away dey all flew,
Before he troo dem a beatin'.
Den I heard him yell out,
What I did least expect,
"Merry Friggin' Christmas to all,
And yous better show some respect!"

14. The problem with Christmas songs
There are thousands upon thousands of christmas songs, many of them composed by the greatest musicians in western history. However, because of the commercial nature of modern American Christmas, we have to listen to the same 10 songs over and over. It drives me absolutely crazy, because I love christmas and christmas music, but the crap you hear in stores and on the radio is just dreadful.

20. My all time non favorite.....
I'm not sure who sings it but it is truly HORRIBLE. Its 'Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas' by some woman who can't sing!!!
She holds some notes too long and too flatly. Gives me a headache everytime.

I like the more, shall we say, TWISTED Christmas songs...
Walking 'round in Women's Underwear. by Bob Rivers

27. My "Bottom Three"
Grandma Got Run Over By a Reindeer
When this came out, you just knew that Redneck Chic had not only jumped the shark, it fed itself to the shark, too.

Dominic the Christmas Donkey
As if to cash in on all the attention Jewish cultural exploitation was getting in the 1950s and 60s, there was a short-lived burst of Italian cultural exploitation. It started with Nel Blu di Pinto di Blu (Volare) and Al Di La, and finally crashed back to Earth with Dominic the Christmas Donkey. Complete with hee-haws, Dominic the Christmas Donkey was the final humiliating shame of a generation of young Italian-Americans -- until Saturday Night Fever came along.

The Christmas Shoes (Newsong)
This song is so bad that words do not begin to express the depth of revulsion I feel for it. Equal parts of smarm, treacle, condescension and arrogance make this an Xmas treat for the Liberty College alumni set. It's about a Christian Yuppie who encounters a po' li'l (cullid) kid buyin' some shoes for his dyin' mama.

But tragedy strikes -- the boy doesn't have enough money! And the mean ol' store owner won't sell him the shoes on the cheap. So the Chuppie ponies up a few bucks and the boy goes home to spend his very last Christmas with his mama. And the Chuppie goes home, feeling very smug and self-satisfied.

As they say at Wal-Mart HQ, "Good Wanks".

The refrain of the song? The boy wants the shoes,
"... So she can look beautiful
When Mama meets Jesus tonight."

When The Christmas Shoes comes on the radio, I hurriedly put my headphones on and fire up the MP3 of Dominic the Christmas Donkey.
