2. Help me here! ... I booked a trip to Zihuatanejo, Mexico
thru Travelocity (1st time customer). I'm wondering what to expect as far as service is concerned. I'm an old Mexi-phile, been going there every winter for over 25 years. Many good trips, some bad. However, this is my 1st (completely) on-line booking. That's why I'm asking.
PS... Can't wait to leave the very soggy Sacramento Valley (soon).

3. What do you mean in terms of service?
Everything always goes well until you need a change, right? I haven't had any experience with needing any service via Travelocity, but I suspect they are similar to the others. Read your fine print, so you are aware of any fees or rules regarding changes. And hopefully, you're not flying Delta. ;-)

4. Well, in general, the whole package......
The ticketless boarding, the land transfers, the reliability of the hotel reservations, etc....
Thanks!

11. Oh see, you booked the whole vacation.
Sorry, I misunderstood and just thought you bought airfare.

5. I've been on a couple trips with CheapTickets
and they worked out great!

I got cheaper fares than my travel agent friend could get me, and my tickets were available at the little electronic kiosk at the airport, no problem.

I would imagine that Travelocity would have similar service.

8. My friend hates it
She works for a mega-company, and they are assholes.... she has to handle so many transactions in a day, and they're always hassling her about her transaction speed. It's totally thankless.

9. it's alright
for the cheapest prices, i use sidestep.com. they compare prices from a bunch of other travel websites and gives you the best deals.

for reliability, i don't think any of these companies are perfect. each has given me some problems, but they're about the same IMO. i go for the cheapest usually.

10. I haven't had any problems with Travelocity and I've booked a lot of trips
Of course, I haven't needed to make a lot of changes or cancel anything. But in terms of straight up service, they've been fine.

As far as hotels go, I ALWAYS look on tripadvisor.com for reviews before I book on Travelocity. The reviews there are from real people, not travel writers, and I've found them to be much more accurate. It's always best to "average" the reviews you read, though, because there are always people who really love or really hate just about anything.

I do a search first on Travelocity, narrow down the choices they have available, then look up my top 3-5 choices on Trip Advisor. Then I go back to Travelocity and book my trip with the reviews in mind. It's amazing the differences you'll end up finding between 3 hotels that were all rated 3.5 or 4 stars on Travelocity (or Expedia or Orbitz, etc.).

Good luck and have a fun trip!

P.S. Have you ever looked into renting a house or condo? We've been doing that for a few years and we enjoy that way more than hotels. These days you can book them anywhere in the world. Just a thought.

13. Thanks for the input, you guys.
Being an ol' retired Mr. Mom, I spend most of my time @ home ridin' herd
on 2 teen age boys.
This our 1st vacation trip sans the comfort of some in-person talking head to assure me that all is wonderful.
Thanks again!

15. I prefer Hotwire for travel sites, but....
I usually just book direct from the airline websites.

16. I've been getting better prices from Orbitz recently
but I've never had a problem with Travelocity. If it's price that matters, I find there really isn't a pattern - you have to compare a bunch of sites and the airlines directly...

As far as just service, I haven't had a problem (yet) with Travelocity or any of the major sites. Just read the fine print.
