1. I like it!
This house had it when we bought it. Way better than cold tile floors. Kinda 80's "Dynasty", doncha think? (House was built in 1990)

Mrs. Kay wants to replace it with ceramic tile. We compromised and will install the heated kind.

6. Oh that.
The toilet is in a separate little room/closet. So the only cleanup is from water from the shower. And bits of Mrs. Kay's makeup that fall off her vanity.

I tell ya, Alexis Carrington would fit right in. Garden tub Jacuzzi and everything.

4. Honestly, I did
indoor outdoor carpet. The apartment I lived in at the time has pretty bad flooring in the kitchen and bath so I bought some cheap green carpeting at Lowes. No real problem with clean up- it vacuumed very nicely.

7. haha
Just last night I ran in to a friend and asked him where he's been since I haven't seen him at the local watering hole lately.

He told me that he recently bought a house and just that evening he had spent a lot of time ripping the carpet out of the bathroom.

He asked the same question that you just asked. :)

8. My mother bought her house from an older couple.
It has carpeting in the kitchen and bath. She hates it and very often asks the same question, but I think that it might have been a safety precaution. Less worry about falling on a slick floor.

9. That would be a real bother if anything leaked or flooded
And the moisture would tend to rot the floor. I use rugs in the bathroom. You can toss them in the washer if they get wet or dirty.

I do wish I had a balloon toilet like that, though. It looks comfy, though not real substantial.

10. When we first bought our house BOTH the bathrooms had carpet
and not just any carpet: shit-brown SHAG carpet.

I kid you not.

:eyes:

We got rid of it asap.

I remember going in to the bathroom one morning and there were MUSHROOMS growing from the carpet around the toilet! I'm not kidding!

17. I like it...but
our bathroom isn't totally carpeted. We have tile around our toilet, and alongside the bathtub, the rest of the room is carpet...we got a good sized bathroom, and carpet makes up at least 2/3 of the bathroom...

19. Heh...I'd be more concerned with the balloon toilet, myself...
Wouldn't hold up to heavy use.

My dad has had carpeted bathrooms for years now...of course, he doesn't have a bunch of little boys running around anymore, either.

It gets damn cold in some places, man. We put down full rugs in the bathroom in winter and washed them once a week. No biggie.

22. Carpet in a bathroom is unsanitary.
JMO. But I have a little boy and there is no way I would even put one of those little U shaped throw rugs around it. On the other hand I grew up in a house that always had carpet in the bathrooms. What were my parents thinking!

23. people who are hiding the evenuglier linoleum or cracked
ceramic tile

Or who want that warm soft feeling under their feet.

I HATE carpeted bathrooms and kitchens.

We inherited carpet in our house and after the first plumbing leak, out it went. I love the cracked ceramic tile much much more.

24. My father's house is completely carpeted
For whatever reason, it didn't seem to be a problem. The shower had doors on it rather than a curtain so very little water leaked. The toilet didn't leak either.
The house came that way. They didn't put the carpet in. They haven't really done much to the house itself. They did dig a small pond and put goldfish in it, which have reproduced and grown quite large, as well as landscaping around it though.

26. MOLD.....ewwwwwwwwww....
Edited on Tue Apr-04-06 08:20 PM by tjdee
I have a friend whose parents used to use carpet in their bathroom, and they were very clean folks.

But the thought of carpet in there, knowing how much water gets splashed around by kids, wet feet coming out of the shower/bath... I dunno, just seems like a breeding ground for mold and makes me itch just thinking about it. They must be pretty confident in their ability to avoid leaks and keep things dry!

Rugs yes, carpet no.
