6. Here are some hints:

1. Don't respond to whining. Tell her that you listen only to nice voices and that whining will not make you say "yes." Never give in to whining just because it gets on your nerves.

2. Be sure to praise her when she does something right.

3. Give her two chances to do what you ask, and if she still doesn't, then she gets a time out.

4. Have few rules, but enforce them consistently. Don't let her run wild and then clamp down only when you can't take it anymore.

(This is the advice my mother the ex-kindergarten teacher gave to me when I worked in a church-run summer program for children. I found that some of the techniques work equally well with college students, e.g. #2 and #4.)
