I am sick again today, looking for advice
I have gotten sick more times in the last year than the previous decade. I started lifting weights about a year ago (an hour, three times a week) so I think maybe that has something to do with it. Unfortunatly, I look better than I ever have, and I don't want to stop. I already take multivitamins everyday, and my diet is good.

Has anyone had any luck with herbal supplements that boost immune system, or anything else like that? I am beginning to think I need to be taking something everyday.

1. Weight lifting won't lower your immune system.
Getting in shape should boost it, along with the diet and vitamin regimen. Are you getting enough sleep? It seems that whenever I'm sleep deprived I'm more susceptible to whatever bug is going around.

2. Are you under increased stress?
That and inadequate sleep can wreak havoc with you immune system. Your regimine certainly doesn't sound too strenuous.

Also, what types of sickness are you experiencing? What ailments have you had and have you seen a doctor?

3. Its not the weight lifting
if anything, that should increase your immune system.

do you lift weights at home or at a gym? My first thought was that if you go to a gym maybe the increased contact with other excercisers (and their sweat) may expose you to more diseases like colds and flus.

4. That's a good point
I much prefer having my set up at home. It's more convenient and you're not sitting in other people's sweat.

5. Maybe that is my problem.
I am getting good sleep, I am not under a lot of stress, but I am excercising at a gym with a ton of other people. Before this, I did it in my own house. I am racking my brain for why I am getting sick so often, and maybe it is sharing equipment with hundreds of other people.

6. Bring your own towel
maybe two -- one for the bench and one reserved for your face--a small bottle of Purell and be very careful about touching anywhere near your eyes, mouth and nose while working out. Then, immediately wash your hands thoroughly when you are done.

See if that makes you start feeling better.

7. Gyms can be petri dishes...
Bring your own towel, do not use water fountains, and wash your hands frequently or use full gloves!!!

8. Lots of Vitamin C
A multi vitamin most likely isn't giving you nearly enough C. Take an extra 500 milligrams a day. Double that if you start to feel something coming on.
...and wash hands alot.

10. are you talking the congested type
Edited on Wed Apr-05-06 12:21 PM by mzteris
"sick" or otherwise?

If it's congestion - runny/stuffy nose, etc. - it could be allergies!

It especially could be mold allergy if you're in the gym a lot.
