2. First four seasons were great
As she got weirder in real life it slid downhill fast after that.

Becky getting drunk is one of the funniest episodes ever -- with a good message.

6. I also never saw it in first-run
Had that Roseannational Anthem distaste for her, y'know?

Now I almost never miss it when it's on in late-night repeats. Nothin' else on then, but, yeah — damned funny.

Read some odd trivia, too: Corn is somehow featured in each episode.

That reminds me: In "Grace Under Fire," a similar show that also broke me up, Grace had one o' these on her painted refrigerator:

9. It was great until everybody turned gay
No offense to gay people. I have no problem with gay characters in and of themselves. The problem is that tv shows make gay characters "special" with "special episodes" and the show is never really as funny as it was beforehand. Ellen is a good example. The episode in which she came out was hilarious, but after that, the show was about Ellen being gay, not about Ellen, the hilarious character who happens to be gay.

My soap is doing that to a teen character. Now that he's gay, he gets beat up and the whole thing becomes a lecture on social tolerance. I don't need a lecture on that and don't want one on my soap opera. On the other hand, I have no problem with that character having a boyfriend and the whole thing being treated like any other romance.

They take away the individual identity of characters in order to make them the "gay characters".

23. That was the final season...
Martin Mull's recurring character being gay was great.

The final season made him (and his partner, funny how all gay men seem to have one...) a true stereotype... x( Then Jackie became a lesbian, and so did her mum... dumb dumb dumb.

Ellen's 5th season was underrated too. The DJ episode is a riot and there's not a shade of gay in it.

11. One of my favorite sitcoms
They totally showed how a real working-class family lives.

Any time the two daughters fought, it mirrored me and my sister so well I had to laugh.

25. I never watched it when it was in production
but I've caught the reruns and it's great. Shows about working-class people who have both brains and realistic problems are very rare, and the writing and acting (in the episodes I've seen) are superb by TV standards.

30. John Goodman was great in that show.....
So was the actress who played Jackie whose name escapes me.

Rosanne may be a bit of a loose cannon, but I admire her for basically taking over the show after the first couple of years and doing it HER way. I understand she pretty much announced to the producers that she would no longer cooperate without major input. That's when the show became great, at least until that last awful year.

34. I did not care for the ending and thought it was a cop out, covering
basically all the points where the show had gone South. They didn't "really" win the lottery...Dan didn't "really" survive...Her sister was gay, not her mom etc...although switching the girls' husbands around was kind of funny. :)
