Poll question: How Much Do You Spend Per Month On Drugs?
It's a broad category... could be prescription drugs... over-the-counter drugs... illegal-drugs... and alcohol is a drug, too.

You don't have to say which ones, but it sure would make this thread more INTERESTING if you did.

1. Crap- with all of the new anti-migraine and anti depressants I'm trying...
I don't wanna think about it.

All of mine are legal. Although the prices charged for some of them shouldn't be!

2. Caffeine is also a drug
as much as some coffee drinkers don't like to admit it. People should include that as well.

25. Same here, dude.
I didn't even think of that. I spend about $50/month on prescriptions (diabetic), and then tack some more on for caffeine, alcohol, and the very occasional ibuprofen...

5. Over $100, less than $250
That's just for my five prescription meds. If I factor in caffeine and OTCs, it's probably over $250 a month. I don't drink much anymore (bad drug interactions), so thankfully that's not as big a factor.

And I've got "excellent" health benefits, too. If I didn't have those, I'd easily be paying $500+ a month.

6. Around $100 for Rx stuff
Thank God I have insurance. Otherwise, it would be closer to $350-$400.

I get pissed at those drug company commercials I have been seeing, where the companies are trying to paint themselves as so magnamimous because they have programs to "help" people who don't have health insurance. Hey, CEO's, here's my suggestion: LOWER THE PRICE OF YOUR DRUGS. I'm sure you can get by with one yacht instead of 2 or 3, 2 vacation homes instead of 4 or 5. Sheesh!

7. About $350
Between my migraine and asthma meds (and the fact that my insurance only pays for 50%), it's a lot. :(

21. I used to spend that much (or rather my ins co did)
Since then my meds have been changed, and I'm spending about $200 -- and only about $30 for my bipolar meds (Li & Bupropin).

20. Now, $14 per month for two prescriptions
One for my husband, one for me.

Occasionally, one of us will have another prescription filled @ $7 apiece.

The kids do not take any regularly prescribed medicine, but because of allergies, they each get a daily dose of Benadryl, which costs about $15 per month.

Last year we spent much more because I did not have prescription coverage (my husband and the kids did).

22. I said $11-$25
Some months it's less than $11 and others it's more than $25. It's all legal. We tend to have sinus problems around here. Mr GoG uses regular Sudafed; but I prefer the non-drying variety or straight Guaifenesin.
I buy Ibuprofin in large containers; and my little guy needs Alavert in the spring and fall. Then there's my beta blocker, which is dirt cheap, and I rarely need.

Despite my nickname, I don't drink that much. But when I do, I spend the money to buy good beer. I prefer making my own 6 packs out of unusual brews, so a six-pack can cost quite a bit.

31. Prescriptions alone are at least $134 per month for co-pays
Topamax, Verapamil, Synthroid, Trazodone, Imitrex, Amerge, Relpax

That's assuming I don't get anything else filled, such as my periodic Vicodin (a rescue med for severe migraines), Percocet (for cramps), 800mg Ibuprofen (for pain), Flexaril (for muscle pain/spasms) or get any OTC meds.

36. If I didn't have prescription coverage
my monthly bill for drugs would be $0 because I wouldn't spend the money to buy them. That's sounds almost suicidal, I know, but there comes a time when pills are the least helpful thing you can do to your body. I might continue on the insulin, but at $30 a bottle, my dose would be significantly lower than it needs to be to be of help, just so I don't need to buy more than one bottle a month. And once the syringes ran out, I would likely not bother to buy anymore.

I take 10 pills a day. Most of them are generic, so the price is lower than the cost of a brand. However, some of them are not, and I have to pay slightly more for them. But without drug coverage, one prescription alone costs $150, and another costs close to $200, so I would wave "bye-bye" to them. Living on a modest (translation: small) fixed income makes it difficult to do what needs to be done, and meds would be among the first to do.

I don't drink or do "illegal" drugs, thankfully, but for those who might have serious addictions to anything like that, I feel really bad for them. Also, with the current price on cigarettes--another form of a "drug"--I would hope more people would find spending approx. $150 a month on cigarettes (at 1 pack a day) a little high.
