3. I'm no McKinney apologist by any means, but this is a ridiculous
and unfair comment.

That kind of comment is appropriate for the "other" board, not the intelligent one.

Just in case you don't know it, don't EVER touch a black woman's newly, freshly done hair without her permission.

at least the ones I know

Cynthia clearly has more of a Chaka Khan look now. I have to admit, the hair change has dramatically changed how she looks. I didn't recognize her when she had that press conference until she smiled.

I'm not calling you out, but people act as if black women are neurotic about their hair. I hate when strangers,(or even acquaintances) think they can touch me because my hair is so "interesting". I don't go around grabbing random people's hair and neither my ethnicity nor my gender should make it ok to touch me without permission.

Think about it, why would you touch anyone's hair, freshly done or not?

I wear braids and strangers constantly walk up to me touching my hair asking the usual STOOPID questions- "Is that your real hair?", "How long did it take?", "Can you wash it?" ect..:eyes: I really don't care if a stranger offers a compliment and leaves it at that but I hate it when strangers feel they can invade my personal space and try to get up all in my business.

Once back in the eighties, a couple of years after Bo Derek did the movie 10, a lady actually came up to me and said, "don't you know the Bo Derek look is out?"

Nevermind that we've worn our hair in cornrows/braids for generations. It was never a "fad" to us and we sure as hell never called it "the Bo Derek look".

Bo Derek

11. The hair is only relevant in that it dramatically changed her
appearance, hence that is maybe why she wasn't recognized?

And come on DU let's have a little sense of humor here........

17. During O.J.'s trial, Johnnie Cochran donned a skull cap and exclaimed "I'm
wearing this cap, but I'm still Johnnie Cochran".The point of his demonstration was to make the case that small changes in a person's appearance don't overide their major physical charcteristics.

BTW, CM has had her hairdo since January. Why didn't it occur to any of the cops that "the troublemaker" had disappeared since then?

15. She changed her hairstyle "months ago"
"The officer may not have recognized McKinney because she changed her hairstyle a few months ago"

This OP is offensive and I can't believe it has been allowed to stand. Sorry, just my opinion.

20. I'm sorry if this post offended anyone, but that is not the intent
-IIRC CM had her new hair doo back in Jan, SO somebody had 2-3 months to get acclimated.

-It would seem that CMs hair doo may be somewhat popular.

-So forget about being offending for one minute and consider a bigger picture, one I have tried to illustrate.

-Please consider the original intent of the poster, not just what you want to see in a post. If you are insulted, ok, but if thats all you consider, you might be missing something.

-I thought about this post for a while, before posting it. Maybe I should have spelled things out in a 10 page disertation, but then I would not be provoking any real thought. ANd quite frankly, that is not my style, my intent, goal.

Edited on Wed Apr-05-06 10:17 PM by FogerRox
And from some of the posts here, it may be some people dont get it.

Just as Wolf BLitzer kept on about the hair doo. AS if the hair did it. When it maybe, that many black women can do this, in fact they DO DO it.

NOw see, I just fell into the trap, I was talking about the hair, my bad.

Think TOm Delay.

Think CM talking about 9-11 on the floor of the house.

Think Cheney shooting a guy in the face.

Put the hair down and walk away.

It's a shame...sigh...Black women generally get dogged on their looks, regardless, from Condi and Oprah on down.
