3. Fresh cobia, aka ling.
My neighbor caught a 67 pounder yesterday and brought us some.
Gonna grill it, basted with an Oriental Sesame marinade.
Some kinda spuds and maybe broc.

20. Yes, yuck! Veal!
I'm a vegetarian, but even in my meat-eating days, I would never, never eat veal. It's horrifying what is done to those poor calves.

16. Ummm, no. We're going to disagree on that. Sorry, I eat meat..
Yes, they grow calves to slaughter them. But I'm not going to go so far as to compare that with Iraq. fivegan, the hide thread button is the little x after this post on the front page. The ignore button is the little guy with the x across him. I sincerely hope you have a good night, but, we're still having dinner.

18. It's not about
eating meat. You'll note I don't chime in on every thread about eating meat. However, veal is for the ignorant and uncaring. Kind of like clubbing a seal or skinning an animal alive. To know the cruelty, yet turn a blind eye, speaks for itself. Oh, and if you don't like my responses, you have an Ignore function, don't you?

Enjoy your meal.

FWIW, my uncle raised calves for veal...free range, in unconfined spaces. Not a one of them grew so fat that their legs couldn't touch the ground. They lived outdoors and in. Not all veal is raised in such a manner.

23. Some people genuinely don't know about veal
and there's a difference between people who don't know and people who don't care, and I think Mrs G has identified herself as one of the latter.

who she is. Thanks. Sigh...

24. Oh well. People have opinions, I suppose...but it is disturbing in the
Lounge. If I don't like a thread I try to remind myself to hide it, but I've been guilty of lashing out. Thanks sundog.

***I also do not keep calves restrained in my basement, garage, elsewhere...but I'm probably going to hell because my uncle did raise cattle for veal, and I didn't stop him.

30. but you pay for it
There's really no ethical difference. You perpetuate cruelty by purchasing the products of that cruelty. So really, you may as well crate a calf up in the basement.

17. At least those calves are confined within a larger space
The crates I've seen look like large dog kennels, large meaning maybe 4x4x6?

I'm frankly shocked that anyone still eats that shit...

the worst pics. You're right. Chained at the neck, living in their own feces, can't stand up...can't turn around.

Meh...looking for folks to wake up is sometimes just...well, like asking folks to turn off Fox.

31. It's not a snap judgement
You said you don't care about the suffering of the baby cows, and to me that's immoral not to care. It's a decision I've come to over many years, so no, it's not a snap judgement at all.

enjoys veal. Think what you must. Not once was a calf treated cruelly on my uncle's farm, except for the fact that in the end...they were slaughtered.

33. Some people enjoy wearing fur
But I think fur is cruel.

I think there's a point where you have to set aside your selfish impulses in the name of what is moral.

I've made my judgement that fur and veal are cruel and immoral, and that extends to people who know the suffering that goes into them and still want to wear fur or eat veal.

'Nuff said.
