8. What stunning pics!

Here on the East Coast we have little long-legged, long-beaked birds similar to those in your photos. They run toward the ocean as the waves recede, plucking up tiny creatures that ride in with the tide. Then they retreat when a wave breaks against the shore, as if they're afraid to get their spindly little legs pulled out from under them in the surf.

and I'm always amazed by waves. The color of the water, however, is what gets me the most. And the color in your picture is just the color the mountain lakes here have when the snow and ice starts to melt. But here, it's pretty cold water.

I've been laboring under the impression that mountain lakes were fed by glaciers.....

I've seen those, and the water is cloudier, with the sediment from the ground-up stones in it......

So why is your lake water so clear?

53. I can't find appropriate pictures,

I know I've made some pictures, but I don't have a slide scanner. Here's a main stream, Verzasca, that quite resembles the blueish-greenish color of the water. And I think - I'm no expert - that the mountain lakes are this clear because there's not much water movement that would stir up the sediments.

these mountain lakes were crystal clear, and there was hardly any sediments in them. Perhaps because the water is so cold, there's no actual rottening process going on.
