Damn, that's a lotta snow. Here in Charles County, Maryland (between the Chesapeake Bay and the Potomac) it appears to be about two inches deep out there. It's still falling -- powdery windblown flakes arefloating every which-way. And you should see it on the trees!

This Southern Californian is still fascinated by it. I hope I never get over this wonder of snow.

Seriously, though. My boss has her good moments, but when it comes to snow she has zero tolerance and zero understanding for my apprehension about driving in it -- she grew up in upstate NY. The only time she's cut me a break is the day I spent four hours trying to get to work (not because of skidding and getting caught in snowbanks, but because snow removal in the DC area is a joke, and people are absolute bloody idiots driving in such conditions). On my fifth call to report where I was -- less than halfway there -- she finally told me to turn around. By the time I got home it was 2:00 PM.

So, NOPE: even with that, I'm still not over it. :-D

I grew up in Seattle, and I can assure you, the snow removal there is 10x worse than DC. I was at school one day and it snowed about 12 inches. I was on the school bus for 6 hours going home. It was complete insanity, people were abandoning their cars IN THE STREET because traffic wasn't moving at all. I could have walked home and back and home and back again in six hours, but once you're on the bus, it's aparently against the law to let you off of the bus anywhere but your stop! Someone had the brilliant idea of starting a snowball fight in the bus by opening the window and getting snow off the roof. The bus driver was furious (she had that knack :-) ), and the stupid window froze open!

Anyway, I live in Montana now and the novelty of snow has seriously worn off. The day in, day out trip tot he car to turn on the defrost fan and rear defrost, and then start the scraping of ice and snow. Every day. Six months straight. No break. Boots. Coat. Gloves. Hat. Scarf. Keys. Scrape. Scrape. Scrape. Scrape. Scrape. Scrape. Scrape. Scrape. Scrape. Scrape. Scrape. Scrape. Scrape. Scrape. Scrape. Scrape. Scrape. Scrape. Scrape. Scrape. Inside. Shit, forgot to make coffee. FUCK, look at the time. It's still cold in the car. My breath is freezing to the windshield. Fucking great!

thought that would make you laugh. Back home -- in So. Cali. -- if the car had gotten frosty overnight, all we'd have to do is turn the hose on it for a minute.

I began to suggest this the first time I encountered a frosty car out here, but Kathy was laughing before the suggestion had cleared my lips, and by that time I realized where I was.... and reality set in. I almost cried all the way to work. :D

15. My husband is in Boston this morning

He has to pay big bucks to take his polysomnographic registry test (Which basically means now, in addition to his regular field, he's an expert on sleep and sleep studies, so ask me any sleep questions and I can pass them along). He had to leave at 5am in this whole muck and they didn't reschedule it despite the weather. At least I know who to sue if I'm left a widow with all these kids to raise by myself because he ends up dead on a snowy road somewhere.
Now, I have to go shovel (or I might sent my two older kids out to do it). It depends on how good they are in the next hour. If they keep fighting, it's shovel time.

Not too much snow here in the city yet about 3-4" I'd say. But I guess the south 'burbs are getting heavier snow. We're supposed to get 10-15", our where Matt lives 18-24".

They already have over a foot in midtown Manhattan. Wild.
