The "LOST" thread
Edited on Thu Apr-06-06 07:34 AM by underpants
Anyone else hungry?

SO is the slipper more of the "Wizard of Oz" link from last week?

Oh next week *IS* new.

Sawyer:"Yeah okay Moonbeam maybe later we can all sing Kum Ba yah"

Sawyer really does see people for what they are.

I guess this episode pretty much cancels out any "It's all just a dream theories" BUT Henry did mention a big magnet which is a theory that someone posted a GREAT link about last season.

Henry really is an "Other"

1. I'm just starting to lose interest in the show **spoilers**
I'm getting tired of the flashbacks because I think they've covered everyone a few times over and now they're starting to stretch it a bit with Hurley having an imaginary friend. There was one decent thing about last night's episode and that was the connection between Hurley and Libby which who the hell saw that one coming. I always figured that Libby was some spoiled bitch

6. I dunno
I never would would have guessed that Hurley was schizophrenic and delusional.

It also piqued my interest concerning the accident. I wonder more about the circumstances behind that.

And, yes, Libby looked really, really nuts in that last scene. Has she been stalking Hurley this whole time? Is that why she was on the plane?

I think the flashbacks are an excellent way to develop the characters; however, that said, I do really like it when they have the occasional non-flashback episode. I wish they were more frequent than once or twice a season.

2. Yeah, I pretty much figured out the "Dave" thing.
But Libby? Wow.

And did anyone else notice the swerve that ABC gave us in last week's preview of this episode? I specifically remember them showing footage of Hurley losing his footing on the cliff.

So Hurley may have been responsible for a freak deck accident? I'm getting tired of the "fat guy" angle. 23 people on a deck that could only hold 8? The numbers, again...

3. You are right about the footing thing
She said she was a social worker, I guess she had a lot of experience observing them. Something tells me the psychologist has something to do with this....something MORE than we know.

5. I'm glad they're actually showing new episodes IN A ROW...
I was/am very tired of one new ep and three or four weeks with reruns (FROM FIRST SEASON!!!).

I knew from a spoiler I saw on another website that Libby was at the mental institution with Hugo, but I assumed it was as a psychologist/social worker. Apparently it's not so!

BTW, have you noticed all of the connections between the castaways? In the Sayid flashback to his Gulf War days, when he is on the helicopter with US soldiers, one soldier makes a comment about how important family is. He pulls out a photo, and it's Kate as a young girl, 'cause the soldier is her real dad. In last week's episode, Locke is a home inspector in the flashback, and the woman whose home he just inspected is Nadia, Sayid's long-lost love. Hugo/Hurley and Charlie stayed in the same hotel the night before the flight, and when Hurley got up late and had to rush, he tried to get on the elevator that Charlie was on, but it was full. In The Long Con, Sawyer meets his con buddy at a restaurant, and the waitress is Kate's mother. In the episode where Hurley wins the lottery (yes, I do believe he did win the lottery and it's not just a fantasy), he and his friend are looking at Driveshaft albums. There are more connections, but I can't think of all of them right this second. If I left any out, please post them here!

7. I'm about ready to give up watching for that reason
I'm not much of a fan of Network TV shows because they show too many reruns. HBO along with Cable run their drama/comedy all right in a row with maybe a week break during the middle. Probably why Pay/Cable channels are getting much improved ratings over the Networks.

I would rather that Network TV split the year into two 'seasons'. Season 1 (first half of the year) they would show one TV show and then the second half they would show the other. Most TV shows do about 22 episodes per year so this would cover enough programing for 44 weeks and the other 8 weeks they could use for filler stuff

Thanks!

Edited to add: Thanks for that link! I knew some of those connections, but not all of them. That's too cool!

13. I like the reruns
Edited on Thu Apr-06-06 10:58 AM by Tyrone Slothrop
I don't own the first season on DVD, so it's kind of nice for me to be able to see some of the first season episodes again. You pick up on a lot more stuff the second or third time around.

Fortunately, they also usually pick rerun episodes that are relevant to the next new episode.

I hear SO much complaining about the reruns, but I really don't mind them at all. We're going to have to wait several months between seasons anyway. (Luckily, it's not like Sopranos or something where you have to wait nearly 2 years for a new 10-episode "season".)

Edited for typo.

14. Well it hasn't been established
but how much do you want to bet that Locke's dad is 'Sawyer'. They established him as a con-man a couple of episodes ago, and he'd be the right age now, to have been Sawyers age when his parents got coned and his dad killed his mother...

100 bucks we eventually learn that, indeed...Locke's father is the guy who conned Sawyer's parents.

16. I had that same thought a while back.
Great minds think alike! :P Time will tell, but I'll bet you're right.

One additional thought---why is it that no one has started really talking to each other? I mean, there isn't anything else to do on that island except push the button. It's been over two months in the timeline. Why hasn't somebody (other than Sawyer) said, "Gee, I grew up in _____. Where are you from?" I know everyone there has their secrets, but it's human nature to be curious and at least make small talk.

11. I am kind of lost about "LOST"
I spent the early part of this season catching up on Last season. I came to the party a little late. So there are some things that mystify me. Please don't tell me though; I will rent the DVDs when they come out.

12. I'm frustrated by all of the gaps in the season. It has
allowed for me to lose the suspension of disbelief. All of the flashbacks were effective in the first season as brilliant character development, but now it seems formulaic. I have to say I've lost interest in Lost. It now seems to full of red herrings and the coincidences seem cheesy and not suspenseful or intriguing like they once were to me. If ABC had played their cards right, they would have the show on a schedule like 24 on FOX. If they did that I would have lapped up the red herrings like a kitten to cream, but all of the hiatuses have made me view their gimmicks for what they are: gimmicks. Instead, ABC has tried to milk the show for all it is worth, therefore they are losing viewers. I loved Lost, but sigh, it's lost my interest.

Perhaps I made the mistake of going through the Lost immersion program by watching the show on DVD prior to the the second season. Perhaps the second season on DVD will be better that it is doled out a few episodes at a time.
