Confetti, Mirrorballs, and Rabbit suits

That's ateaser subject line to see if you knew what I was talking about.

THE FLAMING LIPS

I caught them on Austin City Limits Saturday night and was cracking up the whole time (holding the baby). I TiVo'ed it and replayed it the next morning. My wife said her usual "SPONGE!!" referring to the baby being a sponge for light and sound. Oh well the kid better get used to it. Anything that funny and weird WILL be introduced to her in some way shape or form.

They did:
"Yoshimi" (see lyrics below) Hilarious song that quite frankly seems to have been lifted directly from a hilarious DU birthday thread of a few years ago
"War Pigs"-a dead on cover of the Sabbath classic. Complete with a US flag cape and fake blood
"Somewhere over the rainbow"
and "She don't use Jelly"

The sensory overload stage show was pure show business dynamite!!
The drummer ROCKED!!!

From reading part of the story of the band they have really put in the road time and there seem to be quite a few casualties along the way. I can imagine.

Her name is Yoshimi
she's a black belt in karate
working for the city
she has to discipline her body

'Cause she knows that
it's demanding
to defeat those evil machines
I know she can beat them

Oh Yoshimi, they don't believe me
but you won't let those robots eat me
Yoshimi, they don't believe me
but you won't let those robots defeat me

Those evil-natured robots
they're programmed to destroy us
she's gotta be strong to fight them
so she's taking lots of vitamins

'Cause she knows that
it'd be tragic
if those evil robots win
I know she can beat them

Oh Yoshimi, they don't believe me
but you won't let those robots defeat me
Yoshimi, they don't believe me
but you won't let those robots eat me

Yoshimi

'Cause she knows that
it'd be tragic
if those evil robots win
I know she can beat them

Oh Yoshimi, they don't believe me
but you won't let those robots defeat me
Yoshimi, they don't believe me
but you won't let those robots defeat me

Oh Yoshimi, they don't believe me
but you won't let those robots eat me
Yoshimi, they don't believe me
but you won't let those robots eat me

6. I love the Yoshimi song
and others. We would often hear it as I drove my son to school. The FL are very cool.

7. I knew what this was all about
I finally saw them live a few years ago.

That was a really fun show. When I saw them, they did a really slow, ominous cover of Kylie Minogue's "Can't Get You Out of My Head". It was neat.

And, at some point, with all the bunnies hopping around with their Mag Lites, while they were doing a song from "The Soft Bulletin", Wayne smashed a bunch of blood packets over his face and had all this gore dripping off his forehead for the rest of the show.

I think the FLips did a lot of drugs back in the day.
