Long winded posts

Poll question: Long winded posts

I tend to write long entries, whether they're in answer to other posts, or my own original posts. Some people (in RL) tell me to cut to the chase, but writing long, fluid editorial types are more my style and it's hard to stop writing in the style I've written all my life.

How many people will bear with those of us who tend to do these longer posts? How many times have you started to read something and quit because it was long? Are such long posts appreciated, or are we better off if we stick to short, laconic comments instead?

2. anything more than 6 paragraphs is too long

for me to read online. I do like long magazine or newspaper stories though.

3. I usually scan them for key points. I am a short writer usually.

4. I'm a very fast reader, but if the longer posts don't interest me

then I'll move along....it just depends.

5. To often a long posts is like reading a

stream of consciousness kind of writing, the poster hasn't collected his or her thoughts or made any real attempt to highlight the key points. I know some people like that 'stream of consciousness' thing I usually don't have the patience for it particularly when I just looking for facts.

Sometimes a topic requires a lot of words, the key is to know when. If a long post is on a subject I have particular interest in - usually environmental stuff - and appears to be well thought out and I have the time I'll read it as throughly as I can. Often I save it for later reading.

Other times I try to skim but if I get the impression the writer hasn't even attempted to be concise I just skip it completely.
