Doesn't it seem, that with all the incredibly talented and creative people
in the world, that all the TV channels and movie theaters would be filled with brilliant works of genius 24 hours a day?

How come it's mostly crap?

1. Because crap appeals to the masses, of course.
TV is generally not made to make your brain work, thus ruling out brilliant works of genius. And to that I say, bah.

How'd you like the weather we had yesterday? Insane, or what? As my work friend from California put it, "Connecticut has fucking schizophrenic weather."

Snow from 8ish to...10? Blizzardy. Then sunshine, and by 5 pm, no trace of snow. So weird, that.

9. Our street was absolutely STEAMING at 11 AM where the sun hit it.
I missed a lot of the snow, though, because at 6 AM when it was cold and rainy, I requested that Mrs R take the little guy to school because I was locked up. Didn't wake up until 9.

Don't bother to get old and arthritic; it's not worth the trouble.

11. Ok, I'll make sure not to.
Must be a complete pain in the ass. Or the shoulder, as it were.

The snow was pretty, and I'm glad that it didn't stick. I'm very ready for warm weather again! Went hiking a bit on Sunday, got to wear jeans and a tank top, and man do I miss that!

13. The little guy and I went for a bike ride last Sunday.
There are more to come. Not to mention top-down convertible days.

Oh, yes. And trout season.

Old and arthritic? Yes, I'll admit to that. But there are still things to enjoy. Yes, there are.

Woo-hoo! :bounce:

I'm not so much about the fishing, but show me some good rocks or a nice path in the woods to walk... *grin* I can't wait!

I hope that there will be things to enjoy until the time I leave this life! :toast:

That little cutie will grow up to be a comfort to you in your old age. I guarantee it.

I remember when I could out-walk anyone; for example beating a guy seven years my junior up Mount Jefferson by over an hour. After he had made fun of my knee braces, too. Ha!

But for now I need to hit the rack. As should you.

6. It's a culture of mediocrity.
Edited on Thu Apr-06-06 08:41 PM by primate1
The truly brilliant suff doesn't appeal to most people. My roommate's girlfriend is a perfect example. I can't even think of what movies she's raved about now, but I know they were basically stereotypical romantic comedy dreck. At the same time, she thinks that Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (one of the most original and creative films to come out in a very long time) is "horrible."

People are fed mediocrity constantly, and anything that doesn't match this mediocre normalcy that they're used to, they think it's "too weird." (Which is the reason she gave for Eternal Sunshine being horrible, it was too weird.) She listens to really bad pop and country music (and worships American Idol), and thinks I'm crazy when I'm listening to something like The Mars Volta.

It's frustrating, but you just have to dig to find the really good stuff.

15. I don't know if I agree with your basic premise,
that there are a great number of "incredibly talented and creative people" in the world...percentage-wise, I think they are heavily outnumbered by incredibly stupid, untalented idiots. That's what gives rise to the fabled Lowest Common Denominator in the first place. I blame society.

"The Book of Daniel" was one of the best new shows on TV - but it didn't even last 4 episodes because of the paranoia of some self-righteous, insecure shitheads who felt threatened by a TV show about a priest and his family. Jesus. :eyes:

38. You have spoken truly.
Woman, believe me, the hour is coming when you will worship the Father neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem. You worship what you do not know; we worship what we know, for salvation is from the Jews. But the hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father seeks such as these to worship him. God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.

Similarly the best movie in the world will be pre-screened and re-edited.

In the realm of the talentless, the bottom line is king.

22. It's mostly bad remakes of stuff already done....
and not just TV/Movies. Why in the world do people go to plays made from movies? Look at how bland those people are on American Idol. Whenever I (briefly) watch it, I'm thinking, "These are the most talented people they could find?"

I have a theory: during insecure times people don't have room in their consciousness for something genuinely original. They want "comfort entertainment".

remember, they are businesses. They want to make as much profit as possible while expending as little capital and effort as possible.

Its not shows that are GOOD that get made, its shows with the highest PROFIT MARGINS. Like reality shows. Or crap that you dont need expensive writers and producers for.
