1. LOL!!!

And here I thought I was going to read something about the beginning of the end for BushCo. :-)

Congrats on getting it all working.

Kinda fun. You thank me for doing very little, and some <expletive deleted> customer at work threatened to have me put down (literally threatened to have me killed) for being an "ignorant asshole" (among other things) today after I'd spent a week tracking down problems and fixing her billing issue, although not to her satisfaction obviously.

Funny world. :-)

A :toast: to bandwidth.

5. Backlash response ...

Some communications companies, in particular Cox and Comcast, are localizing their support systems, and even using it as a marketing tool that happens to work very well. Some are even localizing to region or even state. Cox in OK, for example, routes calls from OK residents to either Tulsa or OKC call-centers unless something weird happens or the volume gets too high for those calls to be handled in a timely manner.

I must say I am thankful for this. When I have a problem that requires me to contact them, the tech support people can generally look at my address and know where I am in relation to problems in the area.

7. That's evil ...

Forcing me to make that choice. :-)

Which I would suggest kinda depends on your computer. You said you had an older one. How much memory does it have, size of hard drive, and processor (CPU) type/speed?

Windows XP needs at least 128MB to run, and you really should have 256MB or more for it to run at something approaching effeciency. If you have a really tiny hard drive or slow processor (less than, say, a 750MHz Pentium/AMD), you might end up annoyed with XP. Windows 2000 will run on anything above a Pentium 133MHz or equivalent AMD and requires a mere 64MB of memory.

That said, Windows XP will be supported longer than Windows 2000, so I would normally recommend XP for this reason.

8. Based on what you said
I really can't get XP. I do have 256MB but I also have AMD550. I can't remember how big my hard drive is.where do I find that? My friend updated some of the windows stuff today. It is running amazingly fast. WHY should I upgrade at all?

9. General rule ...

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

The AMD 550 would run it, but it would annoy me.

Basically, if your computer is doing everything you want it to do right now, and you're happy, I wouldn't upgrade your Windows installation. You may or may not run into stuff that 98SE won't do well, but by the same token your processor probably wouldn't do it well either, so it's a wash.

For my part, Windows XP annoyed the crap out of me when I was using it. I knew my way around 98 perfectly well and didn't want to change, but I didn't have a registration key that would let me install it on a different computer when I got a new one, so I "inherited" XP. I never liked it. I must say, though, that I did like 2000 for its enhanced networking features. Windows 98 can be a bit tricky with networking, but since yours it working fine, you don't really have a reason to upgrade, imo.

One of the gurus who hangs out in the support group still uses 98 and had never found a reason to switch to XP.
