More if you count unofficial stories and stand-ins (like the guy replacing hartnell in the 5 doctors?)

2. Twelve

If you count Richard Hurndall (who played the first Doctor in The Five Doctors due to William Hartnell's unavailability) and Richard E. Grant (who was hired by the BBC as the Ninth Doctor several years ago when the prospect of a new TV series wasn't going anywhere and they wanted to do animated webcasts instead). That's about as far as you can push the boundary and still have officially-sanctioned Doctors.

the amalgamation of the Doctor's darker nature, somewhere between his 12th and final (13th) incarnations. The Master admits this in episode 13 of "The Trial of a Time Lord", almost verbatim.

The last is Chris Eccleston the Doctor now running on the Sci-Fi channel.

As for how good it is, well, some people here (in the US) like some it don't. Personally I think its quite good, and ecclestons doctor is one of the best. In England it is a huge, huge, hit for whatever that is worth.

Tonight's episode is part 2 from last week, a good story, but critisized for being too humorous by the hardcore fans.

Next week the show kicks into high gear' with an episode entitled 'dalek'. Without giving anything away, it gets more dark and its set in utah! (sort of). From then on out it's Fantastic!

One should always remember when watching Dr. Who that in England it is reagarded as a Family show, not like the pablum crap that passes for family entertainment in the US at all.
