Man, no sooner did I start this thread than somebody in GD pissed me off and became 501. (And it wasn't you.) :D

Mostly, I put people on Ignore when they do one of two things:

1) Continually refer to Democrats in Congress as spineless/ball-less, etc. (I'm just tired of it.)
2) Say something shitty about Kerry. (I don't want to get angry and end up in a flamewar, so I think it's better if I don't see these comments.)

I never saw the point of ignoring people that you disagree with. Rude people? Stalkers? Republicans? Sure, but as I've seen, those are all fairly rare here...and the mods typically tombstone them quickly if you let them know about it. As for people who simply disagree with me, I prefer to keep them visible in the hope that I can eventually change their minds :)

That said, I do know I'm on a few peoples ignore lists. I tend to eschew emotionalism, tribalist thinking, and mindless bashing (what do you expect, I'm a college professor and I teach LOGIC and computer science courses!) I know that on more than one occasion I've irritated people who prefer bashing over analysis and reasoned discussion, and more than once people have responded by telling me that I'm now on their ignore list.

So am I one of your 500?
