West Wing predictions (possible spoilers)

So, here's what I'm thinking.

Like this last election, exit polls are going to be a little off. The polls in the East were already closed as last week's episode ended. It's going to come down to California, where the polls are still open.

The news of Leo's death is going to make the moderates in CA who already like Vinnick, to vote for him, and after 8 glorious years of sound Democratic rule, the West Wing will elect a Republican.

And of course, everything will go downhill from there.

1. I think that Santos will pull it out in a squeaker

by focusing almost entirely on the Santos campaign (and making the evil Bruno work for Vinnick), they've set it up so that Santos is the "good guy." Most of the audience (who skew liberal anyway) will want Santos to win and they'll want the series finale to end on as happy a note as possible (given Leo's death, which I don't think they would have written in if the actor hadn't died).

2. Yes. Pure fiction. Democrats winning without California

and Nevada votes Democrat?

Still, was a great show and next week, Leo's funeral is going to be a double hanky..

5. Dems won Texas

Only in the TV world could a liberal Texan win Texas and a moderate republican win CA. Though the Texas win somewhat offsets CA in this fake world.

11. Reagan carried California. Twice

and even before Arnold, California had Republican governors.

What many do not realize is how slim the Democratic vote is in California. Really only around San Francisco and Los Angeles. South of Los Angeles: Orange and San Diego counties are as red as they come. And the Inland Empire, of course, is red.

Thus, a moderate native son can carry it. With Texas, again, it was a native son and a Latino so I suppose it could happen.

Ohio went red - nothing new there, right?

Wonder when was the last time that Nevada went voted for a Democrat. Lindon Johnson?

12. Arnold and CA

I'm not sure a conservative could carry CA anymore. A lot has changed in CA since Reagan. Even northern CA is fairly moderate. There are hardcore conservative counties, but many are fiscal conservatives, but not social conservs. The neo-conservative movement has cost the gop contention in CA on a presidential level.

3. Here's what I think and/or know... (Definite spoilers.)

Josh will be Chief of Staff (definite).

Will and what's-her-name will break up (maybe) because he's going to run for office in Oregon (definite, althought I forget which office).

There's rumors that Rob Lowe might get the VP spot.

Santos wants CJ to stay on for two years (definite), but she decides not to (fairly certain).

4. I'd love to see Sam Seaborne as VP

that would kick butt!

7. "Sam. You're going to run for President one day."

Bartlet told Sam while playign Chess with him and playing real chess with China over the sale of destroyers to Taiwan that he would run for POTUS one day.

Sam asked Bartlet how he did it and Jeb told him: "You have a lot of help. You listen to everybody and then you call the play. Sam. You’re going to run for President one day. Don’t be scared. You can do it. I believe in you. ... That’s checkmate.

I love the look Rob Lowe makes as Jeb left the room.

13. Back in the day

When Sorkin had fire in his eyes and his typewriter. Each show was a thing of beauty. This one is what made the show great. It was the behind the scene stuff that made the show great. The people and their relationships played second fiddle to the stories. Once the characters are the stories, the show starts to fall.

I am going to miss this show . Its only a show I know but it gave us an escape from these dimwits that we do have messing up stuff .

CJ is Chief of Staff now, isn't she? You don't think he'd ask her to go back to press secretary do you?

6. Apparently they were going to give the election to Vinnick...

But then they decided that would be too cruel to do to Santos: lose a running mate and the election the same night.
Besides, I still stand by my belief that there is no way in hell a senator like Vinnick would earn the Repub ticket.
No way. No how. And yes, I do know it's fiction. But it is based (somewhat) in reality.


My thoughts on this: they'll play the loss of Leo as a loss of experience for the Santos administration. I think he'll
actually ask Vinnick for some support in the coming months. Not as Vice-President, but something else...perhaps a cabinet position?
(Being VP would mean he's only a bullet away from Oval Office. No party would do that, even in this fictional world.)
