Ah, the joys of seeking that perfect mattress...
Edited on Sun Apr-09-06 12:11 PM by HypnoToad
Sigh.

I love salesmen and their pushes to sell all sorts of additions. I think I became a sucka for a new fancy mattress pad, but it's better than that vinyl regardless...

I tried out so many beds... I feel so cheap. And dirty.

Lots of families were in some of these stores. They're busy looking at furniture and beds and the kids are little monsters. Little monsters on dope, or perhaps ought to be. I recall how my parents treated me at that age... quite different from how the juniors and juniorettas of today are being handled. And, yeah, I feel superior for it because I'm well behaved and won't end up a violent maniac as an adult. (well, there was one couple that encouraged their offspring to ask questions. That I liked and wished my parents did more often, but at least they did... and do.)

And my favorite were the people trying out beds... walk past these people from even a fair distance... and PEE-YEEEEOOOUUUU! :puke: They haven't showered in days. GROSS! :puke: Please take a bath, pretty please! With Dove soap on it! (maybe his wife loves the smell of unbathed male, I don't know!)

I found Serta to be consistently high in quality. No other brand really compared. So now I understand the sheep reference; I think the ad designer used ot be a sheepherder... :scared:

Those 12" tempurpedic jobs are very pricey and they feel like boner-hard quicksand. Ewww. I'll stay with the pillows and foam topper; even four 3" toppers costs less than half of one 12" full size mattress.

And then there is the choices of stores:

1. Mattress Giant Superstore. Terrific selection of mattresses, but way overpriced. :( Delivery fee is high. 90 day guarantee. No ooh-aah feeling from me here. But onthe flip side, there's no-pressure sales or even sales tactics, and the salespeople come across as human beings. If only they came with the bed... ooh-aah! :D

2. Slumberland. Much better prices. Somewhat lower delivery cost, and when they take your old mattress, they donate it to charity. 120 day mattress guarantee, though they prefer one tries the mattress for a full 60 days as break-in period takes about that long. They don't do sales tricks for beds, only accessories - and that's when their inbuilt salesbot(tm) chip self-activates... (Hence my mattress pad that is probably closer to $30 in value than $50, but it's got a 10 year warranty and it really does a great job at soaking up liberal amounts of brown cola... so sweat and other bodily fluids won't be a problem either! )

3. Levitz. Damn. When I got there, the bankruptcy sale ended. Doors closed. I recall going there as a tot, tethered to mommy and daddy's hands. The size of the warehouse scared me... but, at age 7, wouldn't you be?

4. Sams Club. Very poor selection, naturally. Mattress variety limited to one brand; Serta, and only 3 models of. (soft, medium, and hard.) The mattress model names are a bit different than what's in other stores. They are probably discontinued, last-year models. And the prices are identical to Slumberland's. (I have noted Sams Club is about 50/50 in terms of getting good deals. Often they sell discontinued items from known-quality brands (Western Digital, Verbatim, Serta, Logitech, et al... and with some research, some products cost no different.) No real return policy is mentioned, and given their stance on other body-contact items (e.g. underwear), there is no return allowed. Delivery is free, but this is a case where lowest dollar is not the best dollar. I will spend more elsewhere. (isn't having a brain bad??)

So I got the serta from Slumberland it'll be delivered soon. I can't wait. Especially when driving home through the dark side of town. So that is what a prostitute looks like. Cool.
