Collectors - What Do You Collect? Music Memorabilia, etc.
I've got a couple of 24kt gold record awards. The Rolling Stones - Sticky Fingers and The Beatles - Sgt. Pepper. They look very cool hanging on the wall.

I also have a limited edition lithograph of the original cover art for The Rolling Stones - Exile On Main Street. #727 of 5000. These were for sale during the VOODOO LOUNGE tour.

I've got some other stuff too... Autographed records, rare records etc.

I would love to hear what you have.

1. I collect rather randomly
But I have the original White Album with the John and Yoko pic. In fact, I have all original Beatles releases and have a number of Columbia compilations with Beatles singles which are of value.

I have almost all of the "picture discs" of the 80's

I have a program from the Beatle's at Shea Stadium (which I attended).

I have a the original first release of Buffalo Springfield which was pulled with a tune called Baby Don't Scold me (ripped off the guitar riff from Daytripper)

And I collect guitars.

7. The funny thing is I don't hunt these things down
but if I come across them, I buy them being familiar with their value....sometimes that value is more sentimentally based meaning they don't get listed for huge sums but are of such interest to others that they will PAY more to have them.

BTW, I also have in plastic, the original WHACKED comic book that came out about the Bobbit, Tanya scandal a few years back.

9. I am also one of those people
I have 2, 3, and even 4 copies of some recordings... you know, audiophile version on thick vinyl, gold audiophile cd, import vinyl, standard CD, etc. It can get rather psychotic at times. :freak:

3. Movie posters
and TV show posters, but by and large, movie posters.

It's also funny to see how crooks try to sell phonies as the real things too... :D

29. Several ways
Until the early 90s, all movie posters had a white border around them. At the bottom there would be the title of the movie, along with a legal disclaimer, and so on...

ALL genuine movie posters are 27x40". If it's 27x39 or 27x38, it's a reprint. (though there are many nonstandard sizes used from the beginning of the industry to about the early 1970s...) Looking at the poster itself will also betray if it's genuine, by the age of the paper and if there's any fading...

Ebay was hilarious when many people were selling "genuine" Matrix movie posters for $40 each, and saying the poster was 27x38. Uh-uh. (a genuine Matrix double-sided poster costs $150, if you can find it... a double-sided poster has the same image on both sides; reversed on the other. This, when backlit, looks even more striking than a standard one-sided poster...)

6. LP records
also, old cameras. The records are mostly new wave from the 80s, indy rock from the 90s, and old ones with weird covers.

15. Live recordings, autographs...
I'm a big fan of unofficial live recordings, so I have a ton of them. (Not the kind you pay $40 for in some shady record store, though. Same stuff or better, but for the cost of blanks and postage.) I also like to collect autographs. Personally, of course. Off the top of my head, I have:

Todd Rundgren
4 members of the Tubes
All the Zappa kids
Geoff Downes (member of The Buggles and Yes)
Mike Keneally
Eric Idle
Rick Wakeman
Trout Fishing In America
Joe Jackson
Christopher Cross
Meat Loaf
Kasim Sulton
Tony Maimone (of Pere Ubu)
Kramer
Dogbowl
John S. Hall (of "Detachable Penis" fame)
John Cafferty

Edited on Sat Dec-06-03 08:00 PM by Norbert
I bought it for maybe $1.50 a few years after the Dave Edmunds hit song. I played one side of the LP and wisely put it away.

27. Zuni fetishes and Hopi Katsinas (here's two pics)
Take a look at this carving of a lizard by the late Staley Natewa -- this is in my collection -- the carving is of apple coral, and only about three incles in length.

And this is an antelope katsina carved out of cottonwood root by Fred Ross of the Hopi. It's about 14" tall, and is done in the new traditional style -- more minimalist in appearance, less like an action figure.
