"Blizzard-like conditions" - DUers up East, are y'all ok?
I swear to god NBC News just referred to "blizzard-like conditions" up around Boston. Are they just engaging in a wee bit of hyperbole? Is everybody doing ok?

They talked about lots of car accidents in Boston and we'd rather you weren't in one of them. :-)

Been years since I smelled a turf fire.

Sounds like all you need now is some hot chocolate or cider and you'll be set.

6. Weather service has "blizzard warnings" up here
It's a combination of snow and wind and we're getting both. I live in the woods so it's a little difficult for me to see just how snowy and windy it is but I just spoke with my mother in Portland and she can't see far outside her windows. Forecast is for snowfall between 8 and 16 inches. I was at the local ski area today and this is heaven!

16. Well, they gotta say something...
and it's a good storm, but not a great storm.

A foot to bury-the-dog, depending on where you are or who you listen to. Most of the roads around here are plowed, although not all that well. Funny how the richer towns, with voters with influence to keep taxes down, aren't plowed. No money in the budget.

There will be a few heart attacks from out of shape snow shovelers, and vast numbers of traffic accidents. Death by stupidity, with the weather as proximate cause.

Last night, the local news said 165 car wrecks on the NJ Turnpike and Garden State Parkway. No update on that so far that I've heard, and they haven't mentioned the thousands of wrecks on the other roads.

And we wonder why insurance rates are so high here?

I'm busy all day tomorrow, but Monday I just might build a snowman.

49. The local kids usually jump in.
Mucho years ago, we had a humongous blizzard that dumped about three feet on the area.

One of the local artists around my place on Long Island grabbed a bunch of kids, a plow, and a front-end loader.

They plowed up a parking lot and made a dragon maybe 20-30' long and 8' high. The thing was huge and took days to finish. Too bad I can't find the pictures I took.

Always wished I had the energy, to say nothing of tools and help, to do something like that.

Its been snowing since about 9am, and so far (7pm) we've only gotten about 3 inches.
Lots of wind, though, and its not supposed to stop till tomorrow evening sometime, so they might be right about that 18 inch forecast.

26. NJ: really, really snowed in
Last night, the local news said 165 car wrecks on the NJ Turnpike and Garden State Parkway. No update on that so far that I've heard, and they haven't mentioned the thousands of wrecks on the other roads.

Well, Edison Twnship is reporting 75 fender benders. With those samples, you can imagine how bad it is going to be.

On Friday I took the back roads home from the university where I teach and while most people were driving slowly and carefully, there were still about a half-dozen idiots who seemed to think it was OK to weave in and out of traffic and pass on Main Street.

I felt so lucky to get home safely and be met at the door by a (lonely) kitty cat. My husband is in--of all places--Boston! Wonder if he'll even make it back on Monday.

By tomorrow we are supposed to have 15" of snow.

35. Central Jersey is a mess.
Not alot of plowing being done, either. It took my husband 4 1/2 hours to get home from Newark last night (we live in Aberdeen), a trip that usually takes about 45 minutes to an hour, depending on traffic. I just looked outside and it's snowing again.

30. Yeah, it sucks here.
We are expected to walk miles and miles if we have to, just to get there. Parents who have to stay home because their kids get snow days have to cut into their vacation time. No mercy. I wish the city would shut down when we get a big snow. I have dodged downed power lines to get to work after snowstorms.

31. Checking in from Boston -- I'm ok here, but the weather sucks.
I'm glad it's not on a work day because in this area, most companies expect you to come to work every day, including snow storms. At least I don't have to be anywhere, so I can just relax at home. Unfortunately, a friend was going to come over today and had to cancel. This is the kind of day that I wish I had an S.O. so we could just stay in and have sex all day. (Not that I don't wish I had that--both an S.O. and sex all day-- on other days as well.) :-)

There's a snow drift about a foot high on my porch, nothing is shoveled yet since it's going to continue through tomorrow. I hope I'll be able to get my car out to go to work on Monday. It's too early in the winter for it to be getting this bad; could be the beginning of a very difficult and boring season.

34. Hubby drove from just east of Hartford to Boston this morning
...and back for a work related test this morning without incident. It wasn't all that bad. Then again I learned to drive in the Winters in Nebraska, so I have a different perspective on bad weather. Once at 14, I drove a motorcycle down a snowy gravel road on my grandpa's farm (and lived to tell the tale). Not that I'd be that reckless now though, but I can dream.

She and her gang of lady friends went up for their annual "shopping and shows" trip. They usually go in October, but decided it would be fun this year to go after the tree was up at Rockefeller Center.

She HATES winter, HATES the cold, HATES show and ice. She is NOT enjoying this. She's supposed to fly home tonight, but it's not looking good.

Maybe it's the "chamber of commerce" type of reporting but the local ski area says we got 40" with more coming. I know when I went out this morning I was almost waist deep in the stuff and it hasn't let up yet.

Had a ba-a-a-a-d case of cabin fever this morning (cooped up all day Saturday with nothing to do except make a huge pot of gumbo, bake some bread, and watch the football games). Fortunately, with the sun and the storm past, digging out wasn't too bad today (Sunday)
