Tell me some good back exercises that I can do so that my back
doesn't "go out" so often. What are some good low impact exercises I can do every day to strengthen the muscles in my mid to lower back. Thanks. :hi:

Been dealing w/ this too. I've found stretching yr hamstrings to be very important as a preventative. Maybe someone can explain why, b/c it doesn't seem like they should be as important as they are.

One that feels good (not so sure how theapeutic it is) is to lay on floor on back and draw up right foot towards buttocks. Cross left ankle at right knee so that left shin is roughly parallel to floor. Gently use hand to push left knee away from you.

Repeat other side. (Duh).

4. Squats
I swear by them (holding onto something, of course - I hold the bathroom sink and do them if I wake up in pain - which is not often.) I've had 4 lower back surgeries. The last one was over 15 years ago and I"m going strong.

6. Sit-ups. Half the time backs go out because the abdominals aren't
toned enough to do their fair share in aligning the spine.

Talk to your doc about what exercises and yoga positions would be ok for you to do. Do NOT randomly start trying out exercises because depending on what causes your problem certain motions could exacerbate it.
