55. I especially think that people over there
need to stop getting offended at the slightest perception of bigotry. God dammit, some of the posters over there just can't manage to think things through for themselves and adopt such ridiculously PC attitudes, iut boggles the mind.

Well, just a small rant to accompany yours.

Oy, vey...some people need a history lesson. Had I been alive 150 years ago, I would have most likely been a Republican. The political spectrum was completely different back then, and it's always changing. x(

14. Ain't that the truth man
My great great grandparents were Catholic immigrant Democrats back then but I think that was only because the Northern Democratic party didn't pander to anti Catholicism like the Republicans did but on the greater span of issues I like the Republican Party of 1860-1928 than I do the Democratic part of that same time period with some exceptions I admire WIlliam Jennings Byran.

And this is coming from someone who cut his teeth on USENET in the early 90's, when it was all-out anarchy.

32. I gave up on that place due to all the tinfoil nonsense
After hearing baseless claims that the CIA was behind the train bombing in Spain, the bombings in London, all the beheadings in Iraq, the bombing of the Shiite shrine in Iraq to deliberately provoke a civil war, that the papal election was rigged, that the cartoons in the Danish newspaper were deliberatley planted to provoke a reaction and even that the Indian Ocean tsunami was somehow man made, and viewing the massive (and quite frequently, contradictory) leaps in logic to create motives for doing this stuff, I decided it just wasn't worth it anymore.

Sadly I can't even send people to this site to check out the good stuff anymore because the first thing they'll see is the loony tinfoilers and their kneejerk screaming "THE BFEE DID IT!" every single time anything bad happens anywhere. Doesn't this remind you of the Freepers blaming Clinton's penis for every evil in the world?

Ohh yeah the Indian Ocean tusami being man made, they said that about the Hurricanes in New Orleans too. It doesn't help our credibility. Yeah seriously the stuff some people say in GD looks like something straight out of Oliver Stone's JFK but more nuts.

38. Yuck
I've seen people defend Kim Jung II too. I've said it before adn I'll say it again. Any self described progressive or liberal should be critical of all tyranny and left wing tyranny is still tyranny after all. Being of Eastern European extraction on my mother's side has helped with this perspective. I mean the people of Eastern Europe suffered with the Nazi occupiation and later the Soviet domination of their lives.

Lukashenko from all accounts I read, Amnesty International for one we know how bad they are right? All accounts I read about Lukashenko is that he ran as a reformer after the Soviet Union fell though its been proven his charges of corrupition at the established powers to be were false and \ he's ruled Belarus with an iron fist ever since. I've seen people say it was bad what happened in Ukraine last year too. Christ some of these people would have opposed the Prague Spring because it went against Moscow. We as liberals should see it as our duty to fight for the little guy, the oppressed, thats how I was brought up.

I am someone who has classes with these immigrants kids and they're really great people. Oh no, I loved the Aspergers thread, I wish I had seen it before I presented on thursday because I learned a bit. I don't like the somewhat authoritanism I see in some people who think the solution to the problems the GOP has caused our nation over the past few years is to just ban the GOP. That would be the wrong move. We can make the GOP less popular I feel by doing good things for the people in this nation.

50. This is what drives me nuts about GD
Every time someone posts something that is trying to be funny, or different there are all these people that rein down on them to ask them how is this contributing to getting Bush out of office, or the PC people start to chastise them for making fun of someone who is different. For fuck sake if you can't tell a joke about anything anymore, that everything has to be a serious issue, people will go away. You all know who these people are because they are always the same fucking people every time who hijack a thread and turn it into something its not. I include an example. A post submitted by a hispanic DU member, and watch how the PC crowd goes after him. http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=364x900908

51. Ah political correctness
I really can't stand PC. Hell man I tell ethnic jokes and the like all the time and I in turn get joked on in return. It happened all the time with me in high school. In fact I remember one time I was busting on my mostly Italian friend by saying all they ate in Italy was pizza and I being Irish-German mostly was refered to as a booze swilling sausage eater or something like that. Yeah that is annoying. The PC crowd I also think is the same crowd that can't handle when our side is poked fun at say by South Park but they laugh whenever some one goes after the right. A sense of humor I think is one of the most underrated things to have in life.

52. Exactly
When my brother and I was watching the Daily Show last week and John Stewart called McKinney "batshit crazy," I told him I guarantee that there will be a thread on DU asking WTF is wrong with him, why didn't he go after DeLay more etc. And what was sad, I was right, went on here and there it was. I keep trying to tell them, he isn't Tucker's dancing monkey and he ain't yours either. Plus IMHO the way that McKinney was answering questions was too cute by half and did make her look batshit crazy, but if you said that you were a racist then also. Folks need to lighten up.

53. I saw that thread
I had three words for that OP who was giving Jon a hard time, "He's a Comedian" Yeah I do remember him telling Begala and Carlson that and it's the truth. Lewis Black goes after both sides too. Yeah I saw how people criticizing McKinney's actions were treated in GD, it was very unfair since hell even the Dean of the Democratic delegation down there in Georgia, John Lewis said she should have handled herself better. I guess he's racist too even though he nearly gave his life for civil rights in the 60s.
