2. But who were the guys that discovered him?
Vito has to go. And Tony has his eyes open to that after Carmella warned him!

is unhappy about it. I think Vito offed himself.

Although I couldn't quite figure out at the time who Johnny wanted whacked. But the more I think about it it's gotta be Vito.

22. Rusty is the one J.S. wants dead.
He sided with little carmine during their dispute and Johnny wants him out of the picture.

Rusty is played by Frankie Valli

20. Tony kills Phil
It will get back to Jonnie Sack that Phil was attacking his manhood. Phil will make a play for control now that Jonnie is in jail and he cried at the wedding. Tony was so worried about apearing weak, but he fixed that with his fists. Jonnie can not do that. So Tony will whack Phil with Johnies blessing, which gets teh whole Tony B thing off his back and gets him in with Johnie.

names confused at times! Will Tony try to keep it where Johnnie is still in charge of the New York crew? He and Tony have kept things pretty peaceful between the 2 groups.

25. yes
tony is not in one of the five families, so he can not head up NY. Johnie heads up the luccese family and the sopranos work under that family.

phil is the grey haired guy.
just my gut feeling.

30. They consider themselves a family
but the New Yorkers think of them as a "crew", which is a lesser entity in mob speak.

The Five Families refer to the old time mobsters who run New York.

So, really Tony is under Johnny Sacs? I didn't know that! He sure doesn't act like it. It seems like Tony's opinions & decisions carry as much weight as Johnnie's.

33. Well, Johnie Sack
speaks of them as a crew due to their size, but they are not one of the five families. They make their own guys and kick up to Sack for protection, just like anyone else.

32. well, that is the real world
There is a NJ family, the DeCavalcantes, that is independent of NY, but works with and "reports" to the Lucchese family in NY (meaning they have to kick in cash to make sure the other NY families and the Philly faction don't touch them). The NJ family was historically its own, but they have always worked with Lucchese because the Philly family has a violent history and they needed protection.

This is the real world, where do the Sopranos really fit, hard to say. they are considered independent, but they are only a 30 guy organization, so there is no way that they could take on Johnie Sack's Lucchese style family with over 200 guys.

44. I heard the Sopranos was based on the DeCavalcante family
I remember seeing some doc on either the History Channel, Discover, A&E, or some other channel documenting the murder of a gay Mafioso. And they mentioned the Sopranos, who some believe is a fictionalized story of the DeCavalcantes.

38. I'm sorry to say that all of you totally missed the point of this episode.
It was a discussion about the acceptance or non-acceptance of gay men in certain circles of our society. There were those that wanted to kill Vito simply because they thought he was gay. Tony did not agree. He seemed to soften up and not so quickly jump to condemn Vito.

Jeez, people. Try to pay attention.

41. Vito's gonna hang out in New Hampshire for a while
He's gonna hide there as long as he can. He'll buy the license plate in the antique shop to put on his car to hide a little longer and maybe even start something with the shop owner. I freakin' LOVED the cell phone incident---the road crew guy picking it up and having a heated exchange with Tony, then throwing it under the steamroller. So much for that phone...

Yes, the episode was about acceptance/nonacceptance of gayness. IMO Vito is bi, not really 100% gay. He's probably been conflicted about whether he would rather be with men or with women, and I think he has his answer. From everything I've ever read/seen about the mob, they are notoriously homophobic---note the comment Tony made to Dr. Melfi during their session. He wanted to make absolutely sure she understood that he didn't do anything "gay" in prison.

45. It is an interesting story line.
If things would've gone to the generic formula Vito would already be dead in someone's car trunk. But this puts a new spin on things. Damn though, someone's gotta get whacked pretty soon.

46. I know!
My husband and I were speculating that Vito basically starts a new life with the antique shop owner, then he's tracked down by Tony's crew and whacked. Who knows, though? I guess I'll just have to wait, lol!
