Lots and lots of Sirens...
:( It always makes me nervous when I hear a ton of police/ambulance/fire go by. Somewhere in my neighborhood, somebody's night isn't going very well.

2. It makes me nervous too
Except, that I can tell you as a former EMS person, it doesn't always mean anything bad.

One girl that required 3 emergency vehicles (fire, ambulance, police) sirens Screaming like all hell broke loose....

She was stuck in a tanning bed.

yep.

5. Oh my! She must have been more than a little embarassed...
When my father in law passed away, my husband called and told them he was dead. They sent an ambulance, two police cars, the fire chief, the ME, and a hook and ladder. It was crazy.

Seriously, I am working my ass of this week. We are swamped. And we're down 2 men.
One position has not been filled yet and won't be for the time being
and then one guy had surgery and has not returned.

14. I am sensitive to sirens since my mother had her heart attack.
CFD responded within minutes...with three trucks, even a hook and ladder. They all assured me that the ambulance was on its way, and it was. Happily, even the earliest responders who arrived were qualified to check her out.

They apologized to my mother for turning on the light in her bedroom. Her reaction afterward was that "suddenly, there were all these good-looking men in my bedroom!"

17. Unfortunately, she didn't end up okay....
That was 6 days before she died. But she was with it until the bitter end...until she really started going out of consciousness, on the day she died. It was only six days from the night of the fire trucks.

18. Helicopters do the same thing to me, ever since the night, 10 years ago...
...when we were having dinner on the patio and the Life Flight helicopter flew over and landed nearby. About twenty minutes later, I learned that my son had been ejected 60 feet in a rollover accident and the helicopter was for him. A harrowing evening, to say the least. He recovered from his injuries but with serious after effects that he'll always have to deal with.

The silver lining, for me, is that the accident ended his plan to become a combat soldier. It's been sad and frustrating for him, and I sympathize. It sucks having your dreams yanked out from under you. But I know he'd be in Iraq or Afghanistan, right now--or worse--and I'm grateful that he's not.

19. on the other hand...
somebody's night could have just gotten a whole lot better.

As a volunteer firefighter, I've seen quite a bit of crazy things in accidents. however, think of the sirens as people racing to offer assistance, they could be saving lives right now, making somebody who cares about the person in need of services' night much better.

that's a little convoluted. hope i got the point across.

Everytime. My kids have learned to do it, as well.

21. We just go out and gawk.
:D

No I hate sirens, I have had episodes where I have been passed by an ambulance and have had to pull over. I get the shakes and I sometimes gag. I have been this way since I got shot.
