6. Yellow Dog democrats were old-time southern democrats
they always said they would vote for a yellow dog before they would vote republican.
my grandfather was one.
LBJ was one.

7. Thanks
Given the title of the thread, I thought it was slang for opium.

3. Not me
It's tiring to be sure, and I do sympathize, Lady Freedom. Manys a time I've wanted to just turn off the whole "bleeding heart" feature of my humanity. It's just too painful.

What's it good for? I ask. I have as yet to figure that out.

But I know that I would rather have a bleeding heart than no heart at all.

You just have to figure out a way to balance the outside world that threatens to consume you with getting your own needs met.

4. I'm getting close to that point
I despair at what is happening to our nation, particularly as a very serious American history buff. I am upset at the level of hatred of fellow Dems here on DU, in light of the breathtaking and unprecedented in American history level of evil we face with this administration. Personally, not the greatest now, too, and that surely has an impact. Maybe I am just getting old. But, if I didn't get upset, I guess I would be giving up, and I also guess I am not ready to do that. Going into the fetal position would be nice, but impractical. Check back with me this time next year.

12. Oh honey you need to be selfish for a change.
Holidays put so much pressure on every woman. I notice the men waltz right through, eat the goodies and don't help very much. In their favor, they don't interfere much either.

Do what's important to you. Really, you have to, whether it's school, your show, your job. You need to prioritize. You will get yelled at, when you don't do what others want you to do, but it's time to take your life back. You don't owe anyone anything that they demand. You do know what your real debts are. You sound like you are going to explode if you don't sit back and look after yourself.

10. It would be much easier
For some reason, though, I am compelled to care. Caring has made me so sad, so angry, so anxiety ridden. Usually nothing comes of it. things happen as they are doomed to happen anyway. In rare instances though, something comes of my caring. Perhaps, it is less rare than I think. I silently remember the caring of others and the difference it made to me and wonder if there are others who remember my caring too.

14. When you care
Edited on Sat Dec-06-03 11:58 PM by populistmom
Whether it's a person or a cause, you have to open up and be vulnerable. You risk getting hurt. Sometimes you get hurt which sucks. Sometimes though you can get exactly what you want. It's just about taking that leap, even if it scares the crap out of you.
