My wife is telling the story about when I killed the state bird of Montana
She is talking to an old DC friend on the phone, and she's telling the story of when I killed the state bird.

I ran into a Western Meadowlark in Montana with this oversized rental car on highway 2 on the way from Glasgow to Havre, MT after yet another bad family reunion (the reunion was bad, but maybe the family is too).

The bird just flew right into the grill of the car, just like the grasshoppers used to fly right into my mouth when I was bicycling down the 10th Avenue hill in Havre, Montana when I was 11.

My rental car hit the bird and my wife yelled, "You just killed the state bird!"

Don't tell anybody about this. I don't know what the statute of limitations is.

2. I had to dodge a few suicidal birds today.

What's the matter with 'em?
Don't they know Spring is the time to breed not die!

3. I was out once with the Army Corps on a verification
(If you don't know, you don't wanna know) and I told them they had a hole in the grille of their SUV. One of the chicks was like, "Oh, we must have hit something" and she came over to look and pulled a meadowlark out!!!!

So those things may look tiny, but they can do some damage when you're going 80!

4. It's kind of a shame that Montana only had the one bird, isn't it?
Too bad you killed it, but really, if it was the only bird in the state, maybe it's better off.

7. How long has she lived there?
If more than 23 years, I might know her.

PM me in such a case.
