15. to each his own, nothing personal
I like Rush, even though MANY people ABSOLUTELY HATE THEM! I think Radiohead is like that too.

2. Um...
Edited on Sun Dec-07-03 01:37 AM by BullGooseLoony
Have you listened to whatever it is you're listening to a few times?

I hated them, too, when I first heard them. Their melodies are an acquired taste. Your ear has to be trained.

Edited for jerkiness.

5. definition for acquired taste
Its crap, but you've experienced it enough to tolerate it, then grow to accept it, likeing it is usually a final step.

Beer is an example. Look at how many people drink it. Compare that to the usual reaction upon tasting it the first time.

Just playing.

I like some Radiohead. They don't have an album out that I like from beginning to end. Can't really call myself a fan of theirs.

9. They're definitely worth it.
They're geniuses. They're the best rock band out there today.

4. I used to hate them, too.
But a co-worker gave me a cd of a live performance, and I'd listen to it while working. The haunting melodies and Thom Yorke's voice pulled me in. Now I'm a big fan. In the end, it's all a matter of taste.

6. Oh boy, here we go again....
You don't EVEN wanna know how I feel about *bleaahhh* the dreaded Radiohead...consult the many flamingly amusing argument threads on the subject of "Worst Band Ever" or suchlike for further clarification.

Suffice it to say, I share your pain.

10. when I saw "oh boy, here we go again"
I thought I was in for a flame. Glad I wasn't. I've digitized a couple of a friends albums of them, and they come on randomly, and when a song is really really annoying it usually turns out to be Radiohead.

Or Rush. :)

24. I kinda like Rush.
Especially their early-eighties Police-influenced work ("Red Sector A," "Subdivisions," "Distant Early Warning," "Losing it," aand so on...)

They're not my favorite band or anything, but I still think they're pretty damn cool. Stopped listening to them after "Power Windows," And most of the stuff before "Permanent Waves" is a little too...I dunno, SOMETHING, for my tastes. But on the whole, a pretty underrrated band. Too bad Peart's fascination with Libertarianism/objectivism showed up in the lyrics, though...

7. Each to his own, but I'm giving this thread the "X"
Radiohead is and will be the best band EVER (even better than the Beatles and the Stones)...but I won't diatribe into a lengthy discussion, because I'm going to bed....

11. They suck
I find them so boring, I just don't see why they get such attention. I've had friends sit me down and play their entire albums and I still think they suck. Bottom line = they don't rock.

If you're a rocker like me, check out Black Rebel Motorcycle Club or The Darkness (from UK), or Buckcherry, that's real rock.

13. Or Guided by Voices.
That's some motherfucking rock and/or roll, mothafucka! Glad to meet a fellow rocker. (Although I don't care much for BRMC...oh well.)

And I HATE radiohype, uh, I mean, radiohead.

14. Another acquired taste.
There's a Riot Goin' On by Sly and the Family Stone

At first you're disappointed with the sound quality and the lethargy of the music compared to the real energetic stuff they did before it. After a few listens you're like...wow.

I think of it as the White Album of funk and soul.

17. I love Sly and the stone
Everyday People is one of my favorite songs. I don't remember There's A Riot Goin' On right off, but i probably have it on one of those old albums.

I can't imagine a sly stone song covered by radiohead. except via firesign theatre.

If I had two I'd give them to Rachel Ray and Nigella Lawson.

Radiohead is a cool name for a name.

21. I heard a cut off their red covered album at a record store and
realized that it was going to take some time, and never got back to it. But I got attached to Floyd and the Dead, so if there's something there, I'll figure it out.

23. requires headphones in the dark, nothing but the music
for me, it takes me to another place. it's not meant to be listened to with a group of people. for me it's more personal.
ok computer blew my mind. the rest are good but there's nothing like listening to ok computer, the whole album, and just lying there absorbing it. it's all subjective anyway, but i think radiohead stimulates my emotions and intellect in a way that few bands do. there are so many layers to the music that it's difficult to get it all on the first listen. i'm still discovering things in the music after hundreds of listens.

paranoid android and let down are my two favorite songs from that album.

that said, i don't listen to radiohead as much now that i'm not in school and don't have the time to relax under the same influences.
