DENVER - The Colorado State Patrol is investigating whether a blaring stereo might have contributed to a fatal collision between an SUV and a freight train.
Christopher Cruz, 15, was driving a Ford Explorer when it was hit by the train in southeastern Colorado near Granada Thursday, according to Colorado State Patrol. The accident happened in Prowers County, not far from the Kansas state line.
The CSP has determined that two people inside the SUV were hearing impaired. They say when they responded to the crash scene, the stereo was still playing loudly. While Cruz is not hearing impaired, investigators believe the noise from the stereo may have meant he never heard the train.
This is such a tragedy! I am hearing impaired and can totally see this happening! Very sad. :-(
