500+ Posts - Happy Easter

I am putting a column on my new website that I am entitling "1024". The title is simple enough in meaning, as each column will consist of 1024 characters making each of them a kilobyte in length. A simple schtick to be sure, but one I am finding lends itself well to my purposes.

I am going to test post the first column here and it will appear along with a new one when my site launches on 4/20/06. Anyone interested in reading more (I will be posting my fiction, non fiction, poetry, et-al there) should check out www.ImmigrateToMars.com on 4/20.

It finally happened. I was watching television the other day and I saw a commercial that billed its subject product as “a great gift for Easter.” After all of these years without it there is now going to be a direct market for Easter gifts. I want desperately to disagree with the fundamentalists and say “there is no war on Christianity.” But I find myself believing that they may be right. Though, this war is not being waged by the government or the (majority Christian) people of this nation. The war is being waged by the corporations and marketers of this world who refuse the true meaning of Easter and now seek only another way to fill their pockets with gold. This time of year is sacred to people of many different faiths for many different reasons but all of us should be offended that the second shoe has finally dropped and the marketing/retail industries are perverting this holy time the way they have the Christmas season. Secular humanists are trying to devoid all religion from any aspect of public life and thereby divide us, Christian, Jew, Muslim, and Pagan from the spirituality that brings us hope and joy. I will give a gift to my children at Easter. I will them the truth; the Easter Bunny is a lie, Easter is about Jesus.
