Pity party at my place.
My phone is dead and I can't afford to replace it, my back hurts, my ex lost his job so I have no hope of seeing this month's child support, I had to get a jump today because the kid flipped my car's headlights on... Oh and it's my kid's birthday tuesday and the one present I thought to get him he doesn't want. I can't afford much.

I need a hug. And a muscle relaxer, but I have those here.

6. I have no idea.
If I knew I'd ask. If my phone worked I'd call you to complain, but I really don't feel like braving the staticy land line of doom to do so.

OMG, if I don't get a new phone by tues...

If it makes you feel better, I never told you about the STUPID STUPID thing I did at the meetup. After I jumped your car, I went back inside the F&G leaving the car door open with my binoculars and scope sitting in plain sight on the seat. That's $2,500 worth of glass there. :banghead:

Hope tomorrow is a better day! :pals:

28. That's why I have it; I will never stop.
I have faith. (Strange thing for an atheist to say but hey ;)). Also, good old cause and effect means that if we change the cause we will change the effect. I'm working in my spare time on an algorithm to remove fundicity. (Yep, bieng a not-normal person I can write algorithms for my sets of behaviours).

One day, one day. My main strength is that I don't allow myself the illusions or the immediacy of the fundies.
Example: Fundy says if you hurt gays they'll go away and they won't be gay and that it'll stay that way and you can slay and spray today to spay the stray of tomorrow. (You'll notice I ryhme a fair bit, but I'm not bieng silly).

It isn't logical that it should. Therefore it won't work, is my starting point, then you can work both backwards and forward, why they think that, what'll happen next, and then what they'll do next. It is large but doable.

One day, they'll be a lot of fundies converted. I'm already evangelical proof, in any logical argument ;). They have nothing, it is great. However, far from antagonising them, they had a great time.

Oh yes, fundies are still human. There are a few large walls, and a few small but problematic errors in their initial assumptions forming from the comprehension of reality.

In other words, I'm working on it. I've a little to show for it, but not much.

But I'll never give up; my morals are based upon accurate interpretation of reality.... I spent a lot of time and it cost me more than enything else ever has or can but I know for certain that I am grounded in reality.

Don't despair, the world is not fair, it's like it's trying to snare and tear those who dare to care and share their fare but we'll always be here for you.

The End.

This isn't a cluster of bad things. It is a bunch of little problems. Work on one thing at a time. None of this stuff can kill you. Calm Head. Logic. Fix each problem slowly and properly. I'm going to fix my desire for love by going to the store for a six pack...

good luck.. *hugs*

21. Big (but careful) hug here, and one idea for the birthday
Is there somewhere you can take him for his birthday that would be really special? Don't buy him anything, just check him out of school before lunch and go somewhere cheap to eat that you both like, then to the zoo or even the local animal shelter (ok, ok, that might not be a big deal to him - lol).

Or even to a matinee - movies are really cheap before 6:00 pm, relatively speaking. The biggest gift to him would be you getting into total kid mode and giggling with him about breaking some unspoken movie theater rules, like mixing junior mints and popcorn, or taking little flashlights with you and shining them on the theater walls before the main event starts, making shadow puppets on the wall with your hands, that kind of great stuff we loved as kids. Take a disposable camera and let him choose the places around town or your neighborhood he'd like to take pictures of. The possibilities on this one are pretty cool, I think.

What can I say? I'm beyond broke and have a daughter with a seventh birthday rushing towards me sooner than I'd like to admit!

23. He's having his first ever sleepover at his Dad's that night.
I think maybe I'll get him a movie and some new pajamas to take over there, because he's really looking forward to it.

Oh, I know the perfect place to take him, but it may have to be a weekend day.

The truth is, so many on DU have helped me through all of this and I know how much it means to get the support. It would be wrong of me not to share the good feelings and to try to give back.

I don't have much more than cyber hugs to offer and I know how much they mean.

Keep the faith, sweetie. Hold on and when you can't, come here and let us help hold you up.

has some phones for $10. You might check it out. Also check out the FreeCycle program in your area. You have to register, but you would be amazed what you can get (or get rid of).

34. I can't really get a phone with a long contract right now
since I really don't plan on being here for years, so I think I'll just have to see what it's going to cost me with my current people to replace my phone. The other thing is I have included long distance and unlimited minutes with them and right now it comes in handy.

I'll check freecycle and cl though, since it's a popular carrier in my area maybe they have something. (I've given tons of stuff away on freecycle but all I've ever picked up was some canning jars.)

41. Hey.

A couple of thoughts about the phone, in addition to the other good ideas here:

1. Homeowner's insurance may cover replacement, depending on the contract. Even if it isn't your home. I know they've covered some things I never thought they would. It is definitely worth looking at the fine print, or at least calling the agent.

2. Some credit card companies automatically include insurance for anything you purchase on their card. It is an excellent selling point for them, but then people forget all about it and hardly anyone ever uses the option. So if you bought the phone on a credit card, again it is certainly worth digging up the contract and/or making a call to the company.

3. Check eBay for a used phone. I've known people in your situation who have had very good luck that way.

4. You might want to check the yellow pages or online, I think I've seen people who fix small appliances, including cell phones.

That's all I can come up with at the moment, but I'll keep ruminating on it and check in again if I can think of anything more.

Good luck with the rest of it. Life sucks for you right now, but you're tough and clever and you'll pull through it all right. You've been through worse.

Oh, re: the present for Leftykid... don't worry too much about it. No one remembers what presents they got for their birthday at that age. All he'll remember is whether he had a good time.
