What type of Gift would you get for your Teacher/Chef
Everyone is giving the Chefs at College gifts. I am beyond broke but I would love to get my one Chef a Gift because I have had him as a Teacher since March for most of my classes.

I want to get him something but I don't know what.

2. Being broke, myself...
.....this year I am giving away personalized poems. It's not easy -- it takes a while to think about someone and write a really good poem about them -- but it's fun, one-of-a-kind, and you can get decent-looking frames at Target for a couple of bucks.

Roses are red
Violets are blue
Why don't you leave your wife and kids
So that I can go out on a date with you.

(I am just kidding I wanted to make you laugh)

I got one

Roses are Red Violets Are Blue
This College would go under
If they didn't have you!

6. One of my friends is ordering a case of wine on her moms credit card
She is Hawaiian and she is ordering a case of Hawaiian Wine that is made out of Macadamia Nuts. She told her Mom that she needed a book but her book is a case of wine.

I think that he is straight laced kind of guy. Wine sounds like a good Idea tho.

What kind?

mail order it. Old South Muscadine Wine.

http://www.newu.net/old_south_winery.html

My favorite is the Blue Bayou. It is a sweet white wine, tastes GREAT, and comes in a beautiful cobalt blue bottle. And it's very reasonably priced--around 10 dollars. Don't know about shipping, though.

Give them a call and ask. I gave bottles to my colleagues at the university, and they ALL loved it. Have been asking for more! :-)

Go to the site and look at the wine list. It is truly delicious wine. I am not even a wine drinker and I bought a case for myself, it's so good.

I have a bottle of "Miss Scarlett" on ice right now...should be consummable in an hour. :-)

And by the way muscadine wine is a great anti-oxidant.

23. Here's the wine list

Miss Carlos - Semisweet white wine, similar to Chablis; wine/food editor of the New York Times selected it as one of his personal favorites among 287 entries

Carlos - Semidry white wine, fruity, but not sweet; good with chicken, fish, pork; nice sipping wine for those who don’t like an extremely dry wine

Dry Carlos - our Driest white wine, good with meals; similar to Chardonnay; has a faint muscadine bouquet, yet full of flavor

Blue Bayou - memorable Sweet white wine bottled in cobalt blue; our newest addition, possibly closest in flavor to the fruit;

Southern Belle - delicate Sweet white wine; a top seller; lightly sweet, but not as sweet as Sweet Magnolia, nice with fruit,

Sweet Magnolia - our Sweetest white wine; a top seller; similar to a late-harvest or dessert wine; works nicely with fruit and cheese; pour over melon balls!

Miss Scarlett - lightly Sweet rose´ wine, much like white Zinfandel, our #1 seller; wonderful with strawberries, tastes great with casseroles!

Sweet Noble - Sweet red wine; preferred by sweet wine lovers who are most concerned with their health; with a little lemon/lime soft drink, it tastes like Sangria

Natchez Rouge - dark red Semidry wine; excellent with beef, venison, hamburgers!

Dry Noble - Dry, dark red wine; perfect for those who want their wine really dry; closest of ours to Merlot

Noble Rose´ - Semisweet rose´; nice in between wine; good with spicy foods - pizza, lasagna, barbeque, great for cooking pork loin

Bayou Blush - Semidry blush; a rose´ wine for dry wine drinkers! fruity without a lot of sweetness; great with turkey, boiled shrimp, roast pork, watching a good movie!

Shipping may be available in your area!

9. I going to ask my Dad for that for myself
Thanks for the link. The price is right and I might just order that.

I gave my Teacher a cookbook one time and he had tears in his eyes and he walked out of class. It was kind of odd because I am on disability and he knows that I am broke and he kept asking me if I bought that book for him and I told him yes.

15. I take it you are in culinary school.....
Please allow me to suggest a few books that a culiarny professional might enjoy:

1) One of MFK Fisher's books on food. They are extraordinarily well written and a joy to read for people who love and cherish food.
http://www.mfkfisher.net/

2) Julia Childs' biography (the exact title escapes me now and I've loaned it to a friend so I can't go look!). An interesting look at a culinary cultural icon.....

3) The book "Salt" by Mark Kurlansky. It's a historical account of how powerful salt was in shaping the economies of early civiliations and helped build empires in medieval Europe. You will never look at your table salt the same way after reading this really fascinating book.

16. Thank You!
Do you know how many times I picked up the book salt? About 7 or 8 times and I thought that it was a book that a person would put down If they had to pay for it because it looks good but you would prefer a cookbook and then I would pick it back up and think maybe they might have it already.

I am going to give him a copy of Salt. I have a little bit of room left on my Book Card.

20. Cool....I'm sure he'll like it.
I had NO IDEA there was so much history behind salt. I always knew it was a precious commodity at various times, but I never dreamed salt had such a fascinating history... I think about the book and what I learned from it every time I salt my food now...

24. Can you imagine what we would do without Salt?
I am sure you could replace it with citric acid or something else but I couldn't imagine a life without it because is has so many uses.

22. Just thought of something else to go with it (and it's cheap!)
If you can afford it, why not pick up a small box/pakckage of sea salt ($3-$7) depending on where you get it, size of box, etc... to go with the book?
