When someone needs to sneeze do you tell them to look at the light, |
|
look at the ceiling or neither? Is there some other suggestion you give them so they can sneeze?

1. I remember reading somewhere once that only 20% of the population |
|
can have sneezes triggered by looking at a bright light. I'm in that 20%, b/c it always works for me.
It's an interesting phenomenon....

2. That's what I learned too and I always thought it worked. But |
|
when my daughter needed to sneeze today, my mom told her to look at the ceiling (which I found really funny). So then I thought maybe I got it wrong and all that was needed was to look up to sneeze.

Light activates the tear duct, Looking up causes the tears to flow back into the nasal cavity (there really is a connection between the two) and tickle it - Big sneeze!
I often have three big sneezes in the morning when I drive east towards the sun, and once heard a science guy on the radio explain the mechanics.

to do so would invariably be in bad taste.

5. I don't (well, I just plain don't talk to people), but looking at the |
|
light works for me.
Now, if I could just find some way of forcing an unfinished yawn to completion.

8. You just made me yawn. I can't even look at the word without |
|
yawning.
My kids and I used to try to ruin each others yawns, we thought it was fun.:-)

6. All I know is that if you sneeze |
|
fart, cough, and burp all at the same time you don't want to go toward any light. ;).
