4. Yes, well, pre-Turbo Tax I used to participate
in the midnight run to the G.P.O. -- so I'm just amazed I'm getting it done MORE THAN TWENTY FOUR HOURS ahead!

I actually kind of miss the party at the post office though.

Did you know that 25% of American citizens do their taxes on the last day? I'm in good company. :D

18. You could still go to the post office.
Just elect to print and mail the return yourself rather than e-file.

20. Lazy....
Although if they want us all to e-file they could stop charging us the $15!!! It might be worth it just to do the paper.

3. So I'm sitting down to do my taxes today, waiting until the last minute,
as usual, and sure enough, I can't find one of my W-2s. Which means I have to get another one from my employer, which means I have to file for an automatic extension. I estimate how much I owe them, send a check. Not that big a deal; I've done it before, but I feel like such a disorganized idiot.

7. Done and the money is back and in the bank.
I do have to pay a local tax tomorrow, but I'm just waiting to hand in the check at the last minute. :)

Feds took a couple of weeks longer than the state to return my money.

13. Did 'em last week
Edited on Sun Apr-16-06 09:35 PM by no name no slogan
they were kind of complicated, considering I split with my ex-wife and sold a house last year-- part of which had been used for a home office (which means paying capital gains on the office part of the house).

I ended up owing about $1100 fed, but strangely enough I got a $14 deposit in my checking account on Friday from the IRS-- the same day they cashed my check. I guess TurboTax overestimated, or something.

16. I used Turbo Tax this year only because of the NYS return
It was so complicated that I actually couldn't figure it out so I had Turbo Tax do it. Normally I just do it on paper but the NYS return this year is ridiculous. It arrives with "instructions" the size of phone book. I mailed it out Friday but I had started "reconnaissance" the previous weekend.
