Question about my kittens.
I got 2 kittens, 1 was here a week longer than the 2nd kitten, and the 1st kitten has been doing everything to claim both litterboxes as his. Any ideas how to stop him from doing that?

1. What do you mean by 'claim'?
Is he not letting the other one access? They ARE going to use them both you know... If the other one is a female, that behavior is pretty normal. What's he doing exactly?

2. from what I have seen...
the one uses both litterboxes and scratches, claws, whatever they do, and then as a result, the other kitten doesn't use that litterbox. Maybe it is just me, but that is what i have seen.

3. cats are territorial

this isn't unusual behavior.

a synthetic facial pheromone, "feliway", calms cats and may help in this situ. a single spray in the area of the litterbox daily may help.

here's a link, but you may be able to get the spraybottle @ your vet: http://www.24hourpet.com/animal-behavior-feliway-cats-c-70_102.html
Feliway for Cats -

don't waste $ on the "autodispensers."

6. yes becuase...
this morning he went in the smaller litterbox. But when we seperated the litterboxes earlier, the one cat went down thre and started to scratch in the litterbox down there, and brody (my 2nd kitten) was hesitant about going in there. I even put him in theer and used his paw to show him where to go and all, but he jumped out of the litterbox and ran away. Maybe I am misinterperting it, but it is the way i see it.

7. How tiny is he?
When I raised our two from tiny, tiny babies the little I used was too big and sharp and it hurt his little pads until he was older. Could it be that?

9. I strongly believe all cats should have separate litter boxes.
Cats are very discreet/embarrassed about their own waste.

Imagine their horror at having to wade through someone else's! Can you not provide a separate box for each?

11. We have two. one for each of them but the kitten we got first is trying
to dominate both boxes He jumps into either one and will use both even if the 2nd kitten has gone in one. We even placed them in different places.
