Want to feel GREAT?
This is the Dr. Peter Centre in Vancouver, Canada, providing "Comfort Care" for AIDs/HIV people and it's a truly wonderful organization!
http://www.drpeter.org/html/aboutthecentre.htm

"The Dr. Peter Centre, with a Day Health Program and a 24-hour Care Residence, is the first HIV/AIDS health care centre of its kind in Canada.

Two years after Dr. Peter’s death, the Dr. Peter AIDS Foundation began to consult with AIDS organizations and health care providers about what services the Foundation could provide to fulfill its mission of Comfort Care.

On the evening of the March 1994 Academy Awards, in which the Broadcast Tapes of Dr. Peter were nominated for an Oscar, the Dr Peter AIDS Foundation hosted a celebratory event at CBC Vancouver studios. The Foundation announced it would fulfill Dr. Peter’s vision of comfort care by putting its financial and organizational resources towards establishing a HIV/AIDS Day Health Program in Vancouver."

About Dr. Peter Jepson-Young;

Peter Jepson-Young was born in New Westminster, British Columbia in June 1957. He spent most of his childhood in Nanaimo, BC.
In 1981, Peter began studies at the University of British Columbia School of Medicine. He did his residency at Ottawa General Hospital. At that time St. Paul’s was the only BC hospital willing to care for dying AIDS patients.

In the summer of 1985, he began to experience a number of symptoms that led him to have a HIV test. He was HIV-positive. In September 1986, Peter was admitted to St. Paul’s Hospital and diagnosed with PCP pneumonia. It was then he told his family he was gay and had AIDS. He was going blind. He realized he could no longer continue his medical practice. He expressed to his colleague, Dr. Jay Wortman, an interest in doing AIDS education.

The Dr. Peter Diaries

In September 1990, the first five episodes of the Dr. Peter Diaries were aired. His first diary words were “I am going to introduce you to”. Thus began 111 diary episodes, the final one taped just two weeks before his death in November 1992.
He was young, handsome, and well educated. He personalized the face of the HIV/AIDS epidemic at a time when too few knew the difference between the myths and medical realities of this life threatening illness.

For thousands of viewers who saw his “Dr. Peter Diaries” in their living rooms, Dr. Peter pulled aside a curtain, providing honesty, pathos & humor as he detailed how he lived day-to-day with HIV/AIDS.

After more than two years, what turned out to be his final diary was filmed. Dr. Peter Jepson-Young died on November 15, 1992.

Affirmation

I accept and absorb all the strength of the earth to keep my body hard and strong;
I accept and absorb all the energy of the sun to keep my mind sharp and bright;
I accept and absorb all the life force of the ocean to cleanse my body and bring me life;
I accept and absorb all the power of the wind to cleanse my spirit and bring me strength of purpose;
I accept and absorb all the mystery of the heavens, for I am a part of the vast unknown.
I believe God to be all these elements, and the force that unites them;
And from these elements I have come, and to these elements I shall return;
But the energy that is me will not be lost.

-Dr. Peter Jepson-Young

If anyone has a buck or two to spare, PLEASE donate to help the Centre provide Comfort Care to those who suffer from such a devastating disease! I promise you, you'll feel GREAT for helping others so very less fortunate!

Thank you! :loveya:

1. It sounds like a wonderful organization, indeed, Lynn. Thanks for posting.
I'm a hospice volunteer visitor and although I have never actually worked with an AIDS patient, I do help to provide comfort care to the dying and their families. It's a deep privilege to be of service in this way.

I was particularly moved by his affirmation, calling in all the elements in a sacred way. So beautiful....I'm going to keep that to use, myself.

I participated in the CA AIDS Ride six years ago. 3,000 of us rode bicycles from SF to LA, over the course of a week, and together, raised $11.25 million dollars for AIDS services. There were people who did the ride who were HIV positive, and it was truly inspiring to bear witness to the testimony of their lives and the resiliency of the human spirit.

In the midst of it All-- suffering, loss, sadness and pain-- great and beautiful things still happen. True healing comes in many forms....

:hi:
