Does anybody else get an acid taste from high-fructose corn syrup

though it appears that HFCS is in anything you buy at the supermarket as well, so I'd have to cut out a hell of a lot of processed foods.

There's a definite aftertaste, though. And HCFS seems to leave a disgusting slimy film on the tongue that refined sugar doesn't. (There's a local convenience store where I can get 'Hecho en Mexico" Coca-Cola, sweetened with cane sugar and not HCFS, and there is a noticeable difference in taste and mouthfeel.)

I suspect that the stuff (HFCS) spoils in the bottle. This being next door to you guys (in GA) and therefore also Co-cola country, the Pepsis probably stay in the convenient store fridge longer than they're supposed to. Kinda sucks because I'm slated by family history and poor diet to be a diabetic and candy and beverages sweetened by fructose ought to help. Pity it never turns out that way.

Wouldn't have noticed that if you hadn't mentioned it. (I usually don't keep track of my post count, for some reason.)

And Pepsi products seem to sell amazingly well around here (of course, it helps that our locaL Pepsi distributor is undercutting Coca-Cola by ten cents in price on a 20 oz. bottle...)

I can't get real Coke or Dr. Pepper here, but I can and do get Whole Foods store brand pop (all made with cane sugar) and also this really good pop called Boylan Bottleworks, which is just excellent.

I rarely eat packaged foods or baked goods (make my own) so I can pretty well avoid it, though I do need to have Skittles and Otter Pops on a regular basis.

Fructose, as opposed to sucrose, is much stronger of a sugar. It will turn to alchohol first when fermented.

but if it's a thread asking for medical advice regarding HFCS, it puts DU in an invidious position, because if somebody on the board gives bad medical advice and someone acts on it and is harmed, DU could possibly be held liable. If you're really curious, you might alert on this thread but instead of complaining, just ask why HFCS threads get locked. Of course, we have a new crop of mods so it's also possible the person getting the alert wouldn't know. (As I mentioned already, if this were to wind up in the thread getting locked, it wouldn't bother me any. It seems to be pretty well played out anyway.)
