It's (rather obviously) a horror flick, and combines atmospheric stuff with judicious use of massive gore (Pyramid Head rips a cultist's skin off in one scene) and fucked-up stuff like the Chained Thing.

Your poor kids would have nightmares for a long time.

but what does not kill them only makes them stronger...(just kidding)...i did take them to see king kong...son loved it...he's eight...daughter liked most of it...but when when the bug sequence started she hid her eyes and hugged me...

of course i realize that silent hill is more on the level of house on a haunted hill...probobly worse visually...so yeah i'll wait to get it on dvd...i tell you what tho...son is really getting to the point to where he loves these types of movies...of course he still likes to watch the care bears too...

my brother has the game(s) it is based off, and I'm sure he'll see it. i don't really like "horror" movies, but i do like thrillers. i'm just not a fan of movie that don't have a more realistic plot line. :shrug:

On the one one hand, video game adaptations suck, and for this to suck would be the ultimate disappointment for a Silent Hill fan like myself. On the other hand, most video game adaptations don't have amazing storylines to begin with, whereas this one has a great story, and Gans and Avary both seem to be infinitely more competent than the likes of Uwe Boll and Paul W.S. Anderson.

I saw the preview in the theatres and it was assaulting enough. I don't like excessive, graphic, psychological violence and horror. It's just not my thang. No, thank you.

35. Part of it's that guys like huge intimidating monsters, and part of it's..

the horrific mind-fuck nature of this movie. Turning your brain inside out and being temporarily reduced to a gibbering mental wreck can be fun on occasion.

Besides, Pyramid Head isn't the main "villain" per se in the film or SH2, he's just something that shows up from time to time. The real monsters are either inside the protagonist's head or (technically) human beings with their own Lovecraftian-cultist-esque agenda.

41. It's actually be postulated that Pyramid Head itself is a manifestation...

Of James Sutherland's own guilt and sexuality. In SH2, Pyramid Head basically spends the game tormenting James and eventually kills Maria (who is basically a hypersexual verion of James' dead wife). It's James' self-imposed punishment for killing his wife. Once he's been punished enough, the two Pyramid Heads near the end of the game are rendered useless and then kill themselves.

(See Ava? THIS is why we like this type of stuff: there's a lot beyond the initial violence and whatnot.)

47. It's got lots of things going against it.

It's a video game movie.

It's a horror movie.

It's directed by that guy who did the movie about the ninja musketeer, his indian sidekick, and the spiky lion.

They changed genders of the main characters in order to appeal to a wider audience.

They haven't screened it for an audience.

Now, I would really like it if it turned out good. But it's probably going to be a stinker. Wait for the reviews.
