I just find it sad that there are people on DU who don't have any compassion for victims of assault. Isn't that what we're liberals for? :shrug:

Some just have more asshole than others. The anonymity of the internet makes it easier to let the asshole shine through without fear of reprisal. What's the worst that can happen here? You can get banned. In the grand scheme of things, that's not so bad.

15. I've come very close because of the rape discussion threads.

There are some absolutely vicious neandrathals on those threads. I can't believe how convinced they are that

a. rape doesn't happen
b. it if does happen she must have asked for it
c. rape is just men getting a bit too agressive about sex
d. women often lie and make up accusations about rape

The only reason I haven't put a lot of people on ignore is that I want to know who the idiots are. It's useful to know how deep the poison goes even among "progressives."

17. 'Ignore' is a good option

Sometimes it's easier than trying to continue a conversation. I've put people on ignore for a week or so as a cooling off period. Everyone has a blindspot or two and it's pointless debating when you're in someone's blindspot. There are many times that I shudder at the utter lack of compassion in a posts but I realize that the person may be be exorcising his or her own demons and has no way to see beyond them.

Then there are trolls. :mad:

I'm really divided between ignoring people or addressing them. On the one hand, many of them (in my opinion) are likely trolls seeking attention with their flamebait garbage. On the other, I don't like the idea of letting them spew without debate.
