It was so good a post I felt "the need" to post a response (sorry Witch, but you made me do it, now please stop posting such interesting threads in GD).

I wound up staying in GD for a little while. WOW, it is really crazy over there regarding the whole Duke affair. I forget how scary GD can be. I'll be sitting over by the bar having a drink wrapped in my Lounge blanket.

Sad. There are some real kooks coming out of the woodwork on this issue---I can't take it anymore. I WILL get myself banned at this point for calling someone out in one of those "Getting banned is worth it right now!" moments.

It was so short, but so perfect a post. It summed up her feelings and made me stop what I was doing to really think. The only problem is that I got sucked into the GD debate scene, which is scary. I use DU as a way to get information and as a way to vent. staying in GD for too long makes me more crazy. I have enough stress in the real world, I don;t need DU to make it worse.

I sure have had those "Getting banned is worth it right now" moments. I seem to have gotten away with them for the most part, though I got a nasty PM recently.

14. I dunno I've noticed a lot of rocketing post counts over the last week or

so. A lot of those posts are single line or very short, not my experience of your usual DU gasbag ;) , folks at DU do love long,long posts or their one-liners tend to be funny.

Some of the stuff is naked flame bait and brainless in the extreme. The sad thing is I think they aren't trolls they're recent converts that might not be your run-of-the-mill DUer. Expect more of the same thanks to Bush's tanking approval figures.

I usually only respond ot loungers in GD. I try not to get into flamewars there, but man, this has really popped. A simple two sentence comment by KitchenWitch has over 140 replies.

13. I don't think it's scary - just dumb. I spent hours pouring cold water on

panicky 'Duck & Cover!' threads. I honestly can't tell if they are RW trolls or genuinely witless.

The naked racism, xenophobia, misogyny and general overt prejudice does get wearing. It's possible to lose your sense of humour after a couple of hours.
