offspring the two, and the second generatoin could only be formed by inbreeding of the offspring (ewwww)
If you had eight, there would be people other than brother and sister to chose from, but it still after four generations or so they would all be of one family, and yes, inbreeding causes all sorts of wierd stuff and eventually produces fatal side-effects.
By 24, you have enough genetic diversity that new opportunities to pair are created fast enough to counter inbreeding. Anything below that is eventually toast.
