You and Hu's army
If anyone has any stories about how your everyday life has been affected by the Chinese military, please post them here. I don't have any. I just wanted to use the headline.

1. The fact my former brother in law was in the Chinese Air Force I lost my
security clearance.

While I was in the Army, I held a TS / SSBI clearance. Anywho, met my ex who was chinese. When we met she told me she was from Hong Kong (still a British colony back then), brought her up to my superiors who said as long as she was from HK she was ok.

Well we decided to get married later that year, where she put down her birthplace as being in Hunan, PRC. I knew she had family back there but then I find out her brother is in the Chinese air force and his wife was an official with the Chinese gov't in Beijing, lol talk about a flame fest when that got out.

Long story short, I was pretty much told in so many words to cut off relations with her...which I didn't and shot my military career in the foot heh. Lost my clearance, couple of ranks, half pay for 2 months along with 2 months of extra duty.

2. This one is a bit funny...
My now 3 year old daughter is a little ham. If we go to a toy store, she inevitably ends up sitting down at one of those little toy pianos and serenading anybody that comes by...usually very loudly. (I think when my wife got back from China a few weeks back, she was in the airport yelling, "You're a mean one, Mr. Grinch!"... never mind that XMas was almost 4 months ago!)

But, we bought her one of those toy pianos for Christmas... of course, it was made in China.

On one setting, it automatically plays songs... I didn't recognize any of those songs, but my wife did. As she was born & raised in China, she recognized that the songs on there were songs glorifying the Chinese military. So, some Chinese factory workers must really be laughing at us Americans.

3. On a more serious note...
My wife went to a prestigious military college in mainland China, though as a civilian. Sort of like if West Point had a section for civilians.

However, when she told another Chinese person about this college, he said, "oh, the School for Spies!"

No wonder my wife's green card took almost 4 times longer than normal.
