I'm so uppity that I dared to infiltrate traditionally male occupations; military, police, local sanitation department supervisor, carpentry and other trades work.

My job before retiring was 'grounds foreman' at a federal installation where I had an all male crew who positively detested me for being female and *gasp* in charge of their daily assignments. I was told by a fellow foreman that my job should have gone to a 'man with a family', nevermind I was a single mom supporting two children.

In all my jobs my performance had to be superior, not equal, to my male predecessors and coworkers. In many of those jobs I was the first woman to ever even apply for them. My right to hold these positions was constantly being challenged. I was viewed as an upstart female taking away jobs from men who deserved them.
