Burger King's 'King' to Star in Video Games

LOS ANGELES (AdAge.com) -- The King is about to go Rambo. Burger King and Microsoft are partnering for a first-of-its-kind deal that will build three video games around the restaurant chain's ubiquitous mascot, putting him into shoot'em-ups that will be a cross between "Halo" and "Destroy All Humans." The deal was first reported on gamer Web site Kotaku.com, though details were confirmed independently by Advertising Age.
For the first time, a major consumer marketer has built a video game from the ground up around its advertising icon.

A first for an ad icon
The deal marks the first time any major consumer marketer has had a video game built from the ground up around its advertising icon. The U.S. Army has financed several mainstream video games, including "America's Army" that began as a free download and has been formatted for various consoles as training and recruiting tools, and the marketing community has embraced online advergames. But console games such as the ones Burger King and Microsoft plan to create are novelties.

"That's the sexiest category," said Mike Vorhaus, managing partner, Frank N. Magid & Associates. "This is a pretty unique situation."

1. Whoever wrote that is wrong.
They made games out of the 7-Up Spot and the Dominos Pizza "Noid".

8. I think the announcer in those ads
is almost as creepy as the giant smiling plastic head. Something about that whispered smarminess :scared: is like fingernails on a blackboard.

13. Hell, why even sell burgers anymore? This is a dumb, self obsessed
move and it will backfire. A burger chain should be putting there energies toward serving a higher quality product for a reasonable price. Not toward a violent video game. I hope parents groups make a stink.

I think these latest BK commercials have been some of the worst commercials for anything I've ever seen.

The creepy King, the Hootie ads, the weird Busby Berkeley-style Super Bowl ad with the showgirls building a burger....these are all just awful. I mean, I guess they're working because we're talking about them, but do they make you want to go out and eat Burger King?? Yech.

subservient chicken? Anyone remember that? Type in commands and the person in the chicken suit (or clips) would respond.

on edit: http://subservientchicken.com/ it's still there! If you haven't seen it - go visit.
