how do i move my profile and acad.pgp file from the 2006 version i'm using now to the new 2007 they just installed on my machine

1. Isn't that file located in the /support subdirectory

of Autocad? I would just copy it from the old version to the new version.

I'm using 2006, and it appears that it is located in the \support subdirectory and there is a copy in the \backup subdirectory also. I used to modify the 2002 version of the pgp file, but after having several computers, got tired of having to manually change it every time i moved onto another computer (primarily at work)

3. Try this:

From acad 2006 help file (in ver 2006, they stopped using the .pgp file.)

First exit AutoCAD

To migrate custom settings from the Start menu (Windows)

On the Start menu (Windows), click All Programs (or Programs) Autodesk AutoCAD 2006 Migrate Custom Settings.

In the Migrate Custom Settings dialog box, in the Migrate Settings From list, select the AutoCAD release from which you want to migrate your custom settings.

In the Settings and Files to Migrate box, select the custom files that you want to migrate.
Click OK.

In the Migrate Custom Settings message, click OK to view the log file, or click No if you do not want to view the log file.

4. Question: Have they integrated Express Tools yet?

Our migration from 2004 to 2006 was made difficult by the changes in plotting (er, I mean "publishing").

5. seems they are making thing more complicated rather than easier

and the changes seem suited for the few very hi tech users, rather than the vast majority of us still doing simple house plans, etc.

and what's with the 'fatal errors' still? :grr:

7. Man, if we didn't use 2D so much I would move to Solidworks or something.

Have you tried the Autocad newsgroups? The support forums at Autodesk.com are mirrored on Usenet, and you can set up your newsgroups reader (like Outlook Express) to view them. You need no account or password to access the newsgroup reader. The server is discussion.autodesk.com and then download the list of message forums. They are sometimes helpful. More useful usually than spending an hour searching the web.
