A rant on packaging

We've all been there. We've been given a gift, or we bought something ourselves, electronic in nature (usually) and then fought like hell to open the GD plastic packaging. The kind with no openings--the kind that you need a fucking chainsaw to open!!!!!!

Yeah, I guess it looks "pretty" and I guess it's easier to transport it in that condition, but WTF? It's NOT BIODEGRADABLE and it's a fucking nuisance to open it!!!! And if you open it like I do with a boxcutting type blade, you risk skewing yourself on a jagged edge that you have cut into it. It's unforgivable to waste so much time, effort and energy on this fucking example of pure idiocy!!!!

I want simple packaging again! Boxes with tissue, with a thin plastic cover on a card, anything that is cardboard, and NOT PLASTIC!! Anything that can be either biodegradable or recyclable!!

Isn't there ANY of the electronics manufacturers out there who are willing to put some limits onto the fucking plastic packages? Aaaargh!!

1. You know why they do that?

Because if you package a small and relatively valuble item (as is the case with most electronics) in an easily opened container the first time the sales staff turns thier heads you'll have an empty box with no gizmo in it.

I hate those kind of packages too, but that's why they exist.

2. It serves two purposes - it is anti theft and it is pretty

3. I guess not too many people steel light bulbs.

The packaging is so flimsy and they are so delicate. Drop one and it smashes. But they keep packaging then in those cardboard sleeves that they can easily fall out of.

You're right! But then for awhile, the new energy saving bulbs were costing about a $1 each, so perhaps we should have been packaging them in heavy duty clear plastic!
