Those Annoying Fardels! What to Do About Them
Seeking relief from those annoying fardels? I've found that nothing brings quietus quicker 'n a bare bodkin. Yes, I know what you're thinking. That's an old, extreme remedy. But I'm tellin' you, it works! Don't bear those fardels! Get yourself a bare bodkin. You'll thank me.

2. 'To be, or not to be:
"that is the question: Whether 'tis nobler in the mind to suffer The slings and arrows of outrageous fortune, Or to take arms against a sea of troubles, And by opposing end them? To die: to sleep; No more; and by a sleep to say we end The heart-ache and the thousand natural shocks That flesh is heir to, 'tis a consummation Devoutly to be wish'd. To die, to sleep; To sleep: perchance to dream: ay, there's the rub; For in that sleep of death what dreams may come When we have shuffled off this mortal coil, Must give us pause: there's the respect That makes calamity of so long life; For who would bear the whips and scorns of time, The oppressor's wrong, the proud man's contumely, The pangs of despised love, the law's delay, The insolence of office and the spurns That patient merit of the unworthy takes, When he himself might his quietus make With a bare bodkin? who would fardels bear, To grunt and sweat under a weary life, But that the dread of something after death, The undiscover'd country from whose bourn No traveller returns, puzzles the will And makes us rather bear those ills we have Than fly to others that we know not of?"

4. The only reason I knew to look for that bit
is that part of it was quoted in a WKRP episode — the one where Les was banned from the Reds' clubhouse because the rumor started that he was gay. He was out on the ledge of the Flim Building, contemplating suicide, and wanted to know what "fardels" were. Here came Mr. Carlson with a book, leaning out the window and quoting that line.

5. I Still Don't Know What They Are
The only think I know about fardels is that they make you want to just say ah fuck it. Still, a bodkin is a tough way to go. In New York City we remember Donald Manes, the president of the borough of Queens. About to be indicted for some financial scandal, Manes stabbed himself in the chest with a kitchen knife. Talk about fardels! His wife and daughter were at home in the house at the time. They called 911 but could not save him.

6. I looked it up
A fardel is a burden, specificially one carried in a bundle.
